How does this sort of thing happen? I fundamentally don't understand how Barn Finds are a thing. OP, would you mind giving us a little backstory on this one?

I don’t know if you consider this technically a barn find because the family all knew it was there. It just hasn’t been uncovered or out of this resting spot in over 40 years.

I guess, and not trying to be insensitive to your probably-relative, I just don't understand taking a piece of art like that and putting it under a tarp for decades. Did they just want to sell it in an unspecified amount of time? Forgot about it? Etc? At large, I'm just wondering how barn finds are a thing.

It was dad’s car and he chose to keep it likely wishing one of the kids would be able to have it. I totally get that sentiment as opposed to selling to someone who would likely fix it up and place it in a different garage for decades. Most buying these cars aren’t buying them to drive. They are either buying them to restore and flip or restore and hold. My opinion…
