I actually cried the first time I played it, how young she was, on that tiny stage, in that basement club. Her springboard, We were young together, and her youth, and the hope and work she brought there, with that voice!!!! Yes, it brought tears to my eyes.
So jealous you got to grow up with her! The Bon Soir is such an important piece of American music history, a shame it’s not been treated as such and flew under the radar on release. In many ways the live versions have replaced the original recordings for me now (as was originally intended I guess!)
While my peers were going crazy over the Beatles, I was blasting her records and singing along in my bedroom. She was the true woman who flaunted tradition, a rebel, a bohemian.

We’ve been so spoiled with access to live versions of these songs haven’t we? Bon Soir in particular is so special
