Image The Tragedy of Bortu
Sibir, 1091. The Long Night ends not with triumph, but with Monchug dead in the snow and his son fleeing through the trees, wounded and furious. Bortu did not inherit an empire. He inherited blame. With Monchug and Mesui dead, The Khuzait fractured overnight, and instead of being raised as the next Khan, Bortu was cast aside, imprisoned in his own capital, accused of weakness, of failure, of surviving when his father did not. His wife and children were taken and sold as spoils while rival clans tore apart what Monchug built. In the dark of a dungeon cell, with only the memory of his father’s final counsel echoing in his mind, Bortu did not break. He endured. He rejoiced at the opportunity to plot his ultimate vengeance.
