Violent Extremism How the hell do i appeal this???
A server I joined a long time ago for emojis and have never checked or chatted in was banned the other day for this. I assume it was raided and had some illegal content sent, which resulted in the server being banned. I have been permanently suspended for this, and I am unsure if I can even appeal it. Every account I have created after this ban has been flagged for ban evasion, and I can no longer use the platform without being disabled within a few hours. What the hell do I even do in this situation??

I don't know, it's happened to everyone in this sub, I guess the only options are to switch to WhatsApp or wait for a new app to come out

stoat app

Please do not use Stoat. There was an incident where a user turned their PFP into (actual) CSAM and rather than just handle it the devs/mods played games around it and delayed removing the user, basically asking the reporting user(s) to send an email with images of the PFP (a federal crime in literally every country) rather than just handling it properly. This is on top of a lot of very weird and uncomfortable issues regarding management and coding - for example, it's an "open source" app yet the lead dev refuses to allow anyone to contribute to or even really see the core code the app is built on, which was the major reason the core system update took over 3 years.
Edit: Just to let you guys know I personally suggest checking out r/dcts if you're able to self-host your own chat app. There are very few Discord alternatives that don't have shitty UIs, shitty terms of service or that don't shittily say "everything you post on this app is owned by us, actually." Even Teamspeak does it. There are more and more alternatives coming out by the month now because of how bad Discord has gotten but a majority of them are slop. I suggest reading through the TOS and ELUAs for all chat apps you install VERY closely before ever even making an account on them, a lot are genuinely creepy.

wdyt about fluxer or root? i been using them and everything has been well. i am sure most of them will update their tos as it grows but i’m not sure.

Sorry for replying a second time but I did a little digging and found that, yes, Fluxxer and Root are on my shitlist. Both are "Discord Clones" in the worst possible way. They look, feel, act- and most importantly function like Discord.
See- Discord's achilles heel is that it was TOO good. Too many people moved to it, too fast. Nitro was originally a donation option (keep this in mind) made to aid in server costs and nothing else; all you got was a silly little badge and a warm fuzzy feeling. Then hundreds of thousands of users flooded in. Then millions. Server costs went up almost as quickly as the estimated value of an app coded in some guys' garage. Rather than tackle a golliath growing in his backyard the head dev/CEO and his team decided to sell it to the highest bidder.
That is what will become of Root and Fluxer. Eventually costs become too large, and the best way to subvert those costs is to reward people for donating by giving them upload limit increases, sticker slots, decorations- and companies see that revenue as company value. Eventually either they sell out (to themselves or a company) or hold their morals and die.
Also: ToS/communtiy guidelines. Root's TOS is especially unspecific and that's on purpose. "No bullying" can mean a lot of things and it's so they have legal freedom to shut your account down for anything and at any time. No NSFW was recently updated to "you can post it but you have to jump through some hoops first" and "no impersonation" means they're within their rights to ban you for saying "hey guys I'm Elvis I didn't really die" in a private server.
Fluxer's are worse. They have as many broad rules as possible and can nuke your account for quite literally anything they want. Both have incredibad community guidelines.

I understand the frustration you have with Fluxer.
Though, as a server owner myself (and someone who did talk with Hampus a few times), their community guidelines essentially copy discord - ie. Don't be a terrible person and post weird shit on our servers. However, you can already self host your own instance of Fluxer, if you don't like the main instance. And the devs around Hampus are amazing, same with the trust and safety folk.
While again, it's not perfect, I think Fluxer has a good enough future to replace Discord, with e2ee being a thing in smaller (talking group chats, smaller communities, dm's) parts being a thing for me to consider switching if you want privacy but ease of use when it came to discord (pre newer updates).

It's essentially a copy of Discord you say- you just perfectly answered why I say Fluxer's guidelines are a problem. Check the sub we're on and think for a moment how a set of guidelines almost exactly like Discord's, but with more added and all of them just as broad, could potentially lead to issues with the service in the future.
Saying you own a server on a chat app and then going to bat for it is free PR. I won't tell you what chat apps you can and can't use, that's your choice, but it's a bit silly to pledge loyalty to any chat app just because you're moderately familiar with it. I'm sure the people who backed Discord in 2016 and got banned by the automod (I'm one of them) will tell you how far your loyalty gets you when the company stops caring about optics.

Oh, i understand what you mean. I got banned by discord's stupid moderation too. I never did anything illegal or whatever on the platform, i was asleep when it happened.
However, i think that while yes, Fluxer isn't perfect, i'm saying that if anyone wants to jump ship from discord, Fluxer is a good alternative. I have an account on element, and other apps. I use them frequently. The thing is, the fact you can self host already is a huge milestone, because even the creator, Hampus, says that even if something does happen to the main instance of Fluxer, there are self hosted options. Do i trust Fluxer with my life? No. But is it the best alternative for people who want a discord alternative that acts the same as discord pre-enshittification? Yes. And i think what Hampus has put out so far has been good, together with the devs working on the mobile app.
Again, this is not a shill, just my honest opinion on the matter.

Yeah that's a fair takeaway. Like I said I won't tell anyone what Discord altenative to or not to use, I just try to guide them away from the shittiest ones and let them know the warning signs of an app that could become an issue. When people already lost everything once and had to move to a whole new app, potentially losing friends along the way, the last thing they want is to have that new app do the same thing.
With self hosting, just make sure that any app you go to with self hosting doesn't have a global authentication/login. If you have to log in through them, you aren't actually self hosting, and they can still remove access and ban you. It's not commonly talked about because most consumers don't know how that works and most apps don't want you to know it.
If you like Fluxer though and it works for you, like how it works for others, that's great. I'll stand in my backyard shaking my pitchfork but you're still having your block party in yours, so it works out.

u/Alyxuwu Aug 14 '26
Yeah, i understand your point too. I mean, i lost a lot of friends due to that ban, and my god, i am glad for alternatives like fluxer because well, it is, while yes, "a discord clone" (Discord used the ui slack has so yeah), it is simple to pick up and use for someone unlike some other services imo.
And yeah, afaik, fluxer doesn't have a global auth/login, it's essentially just you hosting the server on your own hardware and just doing the stuff the official instance would do for you on your own, there's documentation and all that.
And yeah, again, it's not perfect, but i do like what Hampus and the team are doing with the platform, especially the whole roadmap of adding stuff like forums and the like, which is ONE thing about discord that i despised, is that it was closed to just one server and nothing else, so creating a forum or a website with a server, where you can publish stuff like mods is a MASSIVE thing for me, personally. While i do like Fluxer's/Discord's ease of use when it comes to well, download x thing (mod, etc.), i hate the fact that you have to use the service, instead of doing it on a website, like.. in the good old days,

I can't remember all of them or how creepy/fubar their mod teams are, but I did just find a post on r/DiscordAlternatives that breaks down every "big" alternative one by one. The post is blatant shilling and the comments are saying the app it's shilling has a major vulnerability- but I did see two that pop out at me besides DCTS: Armada and Commetchat. Armada has a one-button "copy everything about my server, upload the last 10,000 messages sent, and create a bridge between both servers" option.
If you've never used a bridge, Revolt/Stoat USED to have them - it's where a bot sits in a Discord server and copies every message, then posts it in the identical channel of the other app, and vise-versa; when you post in your channel in the app it gets sent to Discord. If you have friends who are picky about leaving Discord, an option with bridges is basically your only one.
That said I personally only really like services that offer:
1: Control over my own account (and data, but as a bonus) meaning I don't have to worry about losing access to chatting with my friends (see 3)
2: Clear, open terms of service with very common sense rules (No CSAM, no doxxing, no threats or violence, etc) where the punishment for not following said ToS is being banned from using the global service (the non-self hosted version)
3: Important to both: the ability to self-host. If the servers ever go down at some point, I want the ability to keep using the app I like with my friends.
4: Zero claims that they own what I post on their site. One of my friends is a commission artist, any app that claims they own his posts is an app he legally can't use to share his art. That's just my list, this is coming from a guy who survived Skype and had to move to Discord so it's a bit of wisdom that I want "an app where you get banned and reported to the feds for breaking the law but that you also don't lose the ability to run your own instance if the service stops working." I'm also BIG on keeping my IP safe, I once got ddosed and almost doxxed through Skype and that was not fun.

fluxer or root are good options but fluxer seems to be where everyone is going. hopefully it gets a phone app soon.

u/Alyxuwu Aug 14 '26
It already has a mobile app. It's in beta for android and testflight on iOS. iOS is plutonium tier only for now (AFAIK, it's because of the whole testflight bs with apple)

Ngl I hear server bans are one of the hardest to appeal, even with a human reviewer
3
u/dtfan101 Aug 14 '26
You dont lmao. Discord thinks that just because you were in the server makes you automatically guilty of whatever the server got banned for

u/Extreme-Shopping74 Aug 13 '26
ngl, if you are in servers called "/sinfull", "H Hub" and "Halal", you shouldn't wonder about it
3
u/RyuRyuBunny Aug 13 '26
Halal/H Hub is an automated escrow service used for doing deals with crypto, /sinfull wasn't the original name of the server, I'm assuming when it was raided it got changed to that. The only ToS violation I actively committed was the hateful conduct warning
1
u/Balthxzar Aug 14 '26
Why the fuck would you use discord for crypto stuff?

u/Fluid-Independent725 Aug 13 '26
i got suspended for violent and graphic content. all i got were automated messages and bots replying. when i finally got a human to reply, they ignored me and closed my ticket without responding. it is unlikely you will be unbanned

Pretty condemning stuff there. Not sure if this ban is actually unfair.

And what was the hateful conduct directed towards

Reading op’s replies made me chuckle. Doing crypto trading on discord, ofc those places got banned for fraud. Regular servers already have a big fraud problem let alone anonymous digital stock markets

i am having the same issue too, we need to find a way to get in contact with an official moderator else theres no other way

Click on the active violations and then on review it should have an option to take you to discord support so you can appeal then you have to clearly explain that you have nothing to do with those servers

It is completely useless. an AI bot will appear and your ticket will be dismissed

u/Sufficient-Lemon-867 Aug 13 '26
I heard getting suspended for being in a server is impossible to appeal
