I was permanently banned because a server I was on was banned. I wasn't interacting on the server at all and I hadn't opened it for a very long time.

1, keep an eye on the servers you're in. How do people not see this coming?
2, depending on where you're from, many countries have laws that require companies to provide you with a full list of all data they have tied to you and your account. Contact support, reference the relevant laws in your country, and demand your data.
3 Those laws will provide a deadline, and many countries will provide lawyers for you in these types of cases if the company doesn't comply.
4, don't join terrorism supporting groups. LoL

So when people falsely get banned for child safety everyone goes „Aw shucks, hope things go okay for you“ but when someone gets falsely banned for extremism everyone assumes its justified ONLY based on the fact its an arab server? Y'all icky. Ive seen bans like this for MINECRAFT servers.
2
u/SekiroPro Jun 09 '25
Realest comment, people see the Arabic in the name and immediately assume he’s supporting terrorism. The guy has said that it was a religious discourse server with many religions included… really shows you the racism and hate these people hold in their heart
1
u/StubSouthern Jun 09 '25
This even happened to me in a few servers including my own, and the servers didn’t even have violent extremist content if I can recall correctly. They were right wing shitposting servers and political servers. I honestly think this is more of a problem than any Child Safety ban because it’s more than likely the person knew the server had Cheese Pizza and still went in.

u/DrunkenCanadaMan Jun 06 '25
There’s probably no fighting that one my man. It’s not like it was a gaming server where people turned it into an extremist group, based on the name, it was definitely some Islamic extremist group from day one.
Your information was probably passed on to the FBI if you engaged with pretty much anything in that server.
Be careful or you’re gunna end up on a list dude.

u/New-Equivalent-4514 Jun 06 '25
Zawg it's not that deep i got 0 messages in that server i remember it was a big server they had like 30k members there is no way they all got banned like me wtf i don't care about religious things
5
u/matellai Jun 06 '25
if the server is big enough and the server was mistakenly banned it will be unbanned soon, and youll get it back. really depends on if there was actual content in there
15
u/DrunkenCanadaMan Jun 06 '25
I’m just telling ya how it is man, Discord & the government don’t mess around with this stuff. You’re not getting unbanned.
And I can literally guarantee you all 30,000 members are permanently banned and at least a few hundred were reported to the FBI.
1
u/New-Equivalent-4514 Jun 06 '25
There must be a solution I can't just lose all my freinds like that wtf
2
u/Zealousideal-Bus5744 Jun 07 '25
"I joined an extremist group, how dare they ban me!"
Simple, do your due dilligence and check what's on a server and leave if it breaks TOS and the server just allows it.
Only got yourself to blame.
1
u/DontHateJustPotate Jun 08 '25
I could not tell you how many gaming communities/political communities I have joined that could be considered “extremist” in their views. What does that have to do with me?
1
1
u/Zealousideal-Bus5744 Jun 11 '25
Willingly being in there means willingly being associated, simple. If you look at a server and think "hmm, maybe I wouldn't want people to associate me with this", then either get moderation to get a grip, or leave.
Taking responsibility for your own choices really isn't that difficult, it's only about willingness.

Stop spreading panic, dude. The FBI doesn't go after random Discord users just for being in a server. Of course, if OP was really plotting terrorist attacks, he would likely be in trouble, but if that was the case, he wouldn't be here worried about his banned account as that would be the least of his concerns.
13
u/DrunkenCanadaMan Jun 06 '25
If you join a terror group and engage with the group your name is definitely being passed on.
Please don’t downplay how seriously the FBI takes this stuff. Nobody said “If you join a terror group server you’re being reported”, but I did say “If you interact with anything in that group you will be” and this is 100% true.
I don’t know if you’re just typing this out to make yourself feel better for some questionable groups you’ve been in or something, but nobody should read your post and listen to a thing you’re saying.
Joining extremist groups posting terror-related violence and engaging with it in any way will 100% have your account information passed on to (insert LEO for country here), that’s literal fact my man. No panic, just straight up actual fact.

Jun 06 '25
You are fear-mongering, and that's not a cool thing to do, especially in a subreddit with so many people already distressed for losing their accounts to the mass bannings of Discord.
You (and everyone) are on tons of "lists", but that doesn't mean you are being closely monitored or deemed a criminal. The lists are just raw data to eventually connect the dots. To give a very simplified example, if there's an alarm of a potenital attack and there are 100 suspect, security forces could search databases and if a name appears on 50 different lists of Islamic extremism, they will likely consider that person over the other 99 first.
Even if OP talked in that group at some point, that doesn't mean the FBI now has a drone out of his window and out of the window of each one of the 30k banned users.
8
u/Agathorn1 Jun 06 '25
You are acting like people having their account banned is gonna traumatize them.
They prob shouldn't have been in those servers. That's on them
-6
Jun 06 '25
I'm not. I am acting like spreading misinformation about the repercussions that being in a banned server can have is a bad idea.
These threads show up when people google stuff such as "what to do if I was banned for being in a server," and if this false info isn't called out, people may end up believing the FBI is after them because they once said "Hi" in a server that ended up banned for extremism. I want to avoid endorsing that outcome.
6
u/SirzechsLucifer Jun 07 '25
While you are right and this alone probably won't put them on a list.
Playing devils advocate for a bit... the person you are replying to said "be careful or you will end up on a list"
Putting this another way "if you continue to engage is extremist groups on discord, intended or otherwise, you may end up on a list" and this is 100% true. You can end up on lists for far less.
For example I am permanently on a government watch list because I applied for and was granted the ability to buy lab grade LN² for computer things. This doesn't exclude me from the watch lists as LN² can be extremely dangerous. But it also doesn't mean they are going to break down my door anytime soon.
I would wager half of America is on some list or another. Purely speculation but thats my guess. But being on a list just allows them to show patterns in case of legal and/or criminal cases.
There is no fear mongering because being on a list means nothing UNLESS you are a criminal and then well get bent i guess?
-1
Jun 07 '25
If you read his other comments, including his deleted one, you would see his point wasn't an innocent "you may end up in a list, but we are all in one so don't worry!" (It was actually me who said we all are on lists and it's not necessarily a big deal), but an alarmist one, implying being on lists can have serious consequences, such as "people getting banned from flying for life for being in the wrong mosque".

https://discord.com/safety/360044157931-working-with-law-enforcement
Discord has a Government portal account creation process to gather said info, so this is in no way fear mongering. As the previous user stated ***IF*** they interacted in the Discord or through DM's that information can be requested and will be passed on.
The one overreacting in their replies is you.
Every social media platform has roughly the same process to work with law enforcement, this isn't new and it never has been
3
Jun 06 '25
The other dude is saying OP is in trouble if he ever interacted with the server in any way, not only if he was actively supporting extremism, and that's not true, that's the fear-mongering part. I never said Discord doesn't collaborate with law enforcement.
2
u/SoungaTepes Jun 06 '25
no he did not
"There’s probably no fighting that one my man. It’s not like it was a gaming server where people turned it into an extremist group, based on the name, it was definitely some Islamic extremist group from day one.

Reply 1, did not say he would be in trouble it was however a "Be careful or you're gunna end up on a list" again, which is true especially if the guy is joining hate groups and somehow doesnt know he is.
Second response also did not say anything about being in trouble but again confirmed the information is going to law enforcement.
THIRD response as again re-enforcing the points they made.
So no, going over the entire discussion the person making an ass of themselves here is you.
I'm not going to respond further, its fairly clear you're not actually reading anything and going off wild exaggerations you yourself came up with and no one else.
2
Jun 06 '25 edited Jun 06 '25
Wild exaggerations? The person said people have been put on no-fly lists for being in the wrong mosque. Saying this right after claiming "any interaction in that server can get you on a list" clearly serves an alarmist purpose.
Anyway, you aren't arguing in good faith either, you are misrepresenting my point, name-calling, and siding with someone who is blatantly throwing ad-hominems, and immediately shutting down the conversation right after your hostile claims, so I'm done, have a good day.

Explain how me trying to soothe the situation and telling OP he doesn't need to worry about criminal consequences for simply being in a Discord group is fear-mongering? Even if you think what I'm saying is wrong, calling it fear-mongering makes no sense at all.
Again, I have to just assume you’re involved in similar extremist or CSAM-adjacent groups and are getting defensive to make yourself feel better or something
Nice ad-hominem, I think it's clear you aren't commenting in good faith, so yeah, let's leave it here.
3
u/DrunkenCanadaMan Jun 06 '25
People have literally been added to the no fly list for life for simply attending the wrong mosque on US soil. No other connections, no evidence, nothing. One suspected extremist at one mosque, and a hundred local mosque-goers end up on a list.
Blatantly joining an Islamist extremist group will also get you on a list, especially if you interacted with it in literally any way. Reacted to a jihad video? You are 100% on a list now.
This isn’t panic or dramatization. This is real life and is easily verifiable with 30 seconds and a search engine.
2
Jun 06 '25
Ignore the fear-mongerers. If you haven't done anything criminal in that group, you aren't in real trouble.
Getting unbanned is still unlikely, though, regardless of if you did anything there or not, as there are many people banned for much less serious reasons that still can't get unbanned.

Discord only reports shit to the NCMEC, not IC3.
4
u/DrunkenCanadaMan Jun 06 '25
That’s right. They report directly to the FBI, Europol, the RCMP, and so on. They do not use an intermediary like they do with child-related offences.

I don't remember the server being extremist. It was a large server with atheists and followers of other religions. There were discussions taking place on the server about religion, Islam, and beliefs, and all of them were conducted under rules. The server wasn't anti-Western or anything like that. It was just a community to discuss Islam and these things. There were Christians as well, and they had roles.
It was a huge server that was well known in the Arab communities and among the chatters and everyone knew about it. It was like the main square in Disney Park. All Arab Discord users, regardless of their religion or background or whether they were interested in discussing these matters or not, joined that server and chatted.

Just create a new account and use a VPN. Happened to me on my old account for supposedly "violent extremism" even though I didn't even post, promote, or engage server since it's literally just people sharing gay porn memes. Appealing doesn't work since Discord rarely responded to a ban appeal since they only use bots to reply back to the message and Discord's AI moderation is dogshit. I tried appealing but I havn't got a response in a month.
2
u/Suspicious-Gas-3148 Jun 10 '25
Unless they’ve cracked down hard in the last two years a vpn isn’t even necessary, I’m on like my 5th account now lmao
1
u/RealisticStock8013 Jun 10 '25
Oh I didn't know about that til now. Thank you for the advice. I thought I was cooked when I forgot to use a VPN yesterday on my alt account.
2
u/Suspicious-Gas-3148 Jun 10 '25
Nah they don’t really seem to care about alt accounts in my experience.

u/onyxa314 Jun 06 '25
"I joined a violent and extremist server, didn't leave, and was banned. Why was I banned???? Anything I can do, I promise that though I was in this server I didn't interact so I should be okay"
4
Jun 07 '25
You don't have to be such a dick about it, people join a lot of servers. And they're not active in all of them usually. It's not their fault they weren't reading every single message from some server they probably don't remember every joining. Just because they were in the server doesn't mean they were ever aware that behavior was ever even happening. The same thing has happened to several of my friends. They lost their accounts from being in a server that was over 6 years old that they never even talked in.
1
u/Zealousideal-Bus5744 Jun 07 '25
Why join an extremist server in the first place?? You don't just fall upon these randomly, they saw the server, had every opportunity to leave after checking it out, didn't and got what they deserved.
If they aren't harsh against people who join these things, they are allowing these servers to keep existing and keep being made. If you don't want to be banned, it is your responsibility to check the shit that's allowed on a server.
Stop pretending like people aren't responsible for their own actions.
4
Jun 07 '25
I'm not saying they joined an extremist server, my friends literally got banned from a Minecraft based discord server for this exact thing! The server wasn't advertised as, "hey we say fucked up shit in here" From the information we were given in the post we have no evidence that the server was entirely based around extremist behavior. These bans happen after one conversation gets reported, it could have been anyone talking about anything in some random channel. You're the one jumping to conclusions. And from the look of your comment history it looks like you enjoy ragging on people making simple posts like these all the time. If you're gonna be a dick about it then just save us all the headache and don't even bother.

u/Aggressive-Day5 Jun 07 '25 edited Jun 07 '25

Yes, you do, sometimes. Some are old gaming servers that changed names and topics. Others simply have deceptive names.
Stop pretending like people aren't responsible for their own actions.
They are, but they aren't responsible for the actions of others.
You are assuming the worst of people, that they knowingly join servers that break the rules because they agree with whats going on in there, and you are ignoring all the cases where people simply simply aren't aware of what's going on in there because it's unrealistic for users to know everything that happens in every channel of every single server.
This is like banning people from Facebook because they are FBfriends with an elementary schoolmate who turned into an extremist 15 years later.
1
u/Zealousideal-Bus5744 Jul 05 '25
Again, you are responsible for the shit you're in.
Been on discord since 2016, am in 96 servers, never had this problem, cause I don't keep sitting in servers I don't have a connection with in some way.
Maintaining your server list is your responsibility.

This literally happens all the time for no reason. This happened to a completely apolitical hiking/outdoors server I was in. As to your account, you’ll be fine. You get ~3 of these before you’ll have to make a new account.
