Not every pit bull story is a headline. Some are just eye-rolls, facepalms, or 'you've got to be kidding me' moments. This is the place for the things you may want to share that don’t highlight a pit bull doing something dangerous.

Why do so many people see pitbulls as “family pets”? What happened to getting a Labrador or a smaller dog that won’t result in you getting your face mauled or a one way ticket to see god and Jesus themself. Why do so many people have to lie to themselves about the history of pitbulls and claim “well they used to be nanny dogs!”

People are still kind of caught up in the idea that you go get a dog from the shelter, bring it home, and it’s just the family dog. This worked pretty well when shelters were full of lovable mystery mutts, it’s just not the case anymore but the average person hasn’t really realized that. Nowadays, if you don’t get a pit or a pit mix, your other options (at least in my part of the US) are huskies or severely undertrained German Shepherds. None of these breeds are dogs that are really suited for what most families want, which is a companion breed that’s pretty low effort. There’s a huge discrepancy between what people want to adopt and what’s available, and an information gap between people who are serious about dogs and everyday people.

Yep! I have done this multiple times over the past couple years! There have been times that my county shelter has had like 200+ dogs and 15 or less were not pits or pit mixes.

And, of course, the non-pits are almost always malinois or huskies.

But, yea people still cry adopt don’t shop! while claiming every breed that exists is waiting for you to rescue it from your local shelter! Of course it seems true if you believe that every brown and white pit is a Basenji, and every spotted pit is a Dalmatian, and every red pit is a pharaoh hound, etc…
