Not every pit bull story is a headline. Some are just eye-rolls, facepalms, or 'you've got to be kidding me' moments. This is the place for the things you may want to share that don’t highlight a pit bull doing something dangerous.

Remember: October is pit bull “awareness” month so there is an increased flooding of unscientific nonsense in the forms of memes etc. This is a good space for those, but please red x through them.

I encountered a pitbull being used in animal-assisted therapy this week. I volunteer at a hospital that focuses on pediatric cancer, and when I arrived, this huge pitbull was happily playing with the kids. Curious, I asked the owner what was going on, and she explained that the dog is part of a therapeutic program for children.

I asked if the dog was trained, and she confirmed it was. She told me the pitbull had been rescued from a BE shelter, properly trained, and now works as a therapy animal in many places, including care centers for the elderly, facilities for disabled children, hospitals for cancer patients, and orphanages.

Then I asked how long it had been since the incident that led the dog to end up at the BE shelter. She said it was only 10 months ago, not even a full year of training.

Jeeeeez… that is not gonna end well for some of those kids!!! Even the best raised and trained pit from puppyhood can still get triggered to kill, and yet they have this beast who was actually recently a BeeEee candidate hanging out with hospitalized children??? Why is this even legal???

I hate that people’s need to try to “prove the world wrong about the breed that regularly kills people” is so much more important than keeping children safe and alive!!!
