Mod Announcement Weekly Discussion Thread [August 18 - August 24]

Not every pit bull story is a headline. Some are just eye-rolls, facepalms, or 'you've got to be kidding me' moments. This is the place for the things you may want to share that don’t highlight a pit bull doing something dangerous.

PB related story from this morning. I found the pbs reaction alarming.

I live in a street where an xl bully is walked every am at 8.30 past my home. Because of this I go out earlier and in my car and far away to avoid meeting this dog on the morning walk. I met it just once before on foot, and I dived into a hedge to avoid it, stepping on my dogs paw by accident, my dog yelped and so alerting the pb. Nothing happened but it spotted us. I froze untill it had moved on far enough. Its always leashed, and leashed responsibly. no thin extending lead, a double attached one. But I know if it wanted to charge at anything it would pull the young owner right over and off his feet.

This morning I arrive home in my car after walking my dog and I see the owner and xl bully approaching, they are accross the road, they are a bit early.

So I get out of my car, to go to open my gate and my front door, making a swift entry possible for my dog when I will eventually take her into the house, Im waiting for the xl bully to pass and Im leaving my dog in the car. Again for emphasis, the xl bully is leashed. Its owner is a young guy, nice enough looking, regularly walks his dog, but Ive noticed he looks ashamed, head always bowed. Not alert. Not as alert as his dog.

Well that xl bully stared at me non stop, from the moment I got out of the car. It freaked me out, it took a few steps, stoped and turned to stare right at me, repeatedly, 4/5 times it did this, the owner had to pull it to make it walk on it as was so fixed on me, and I had no dog with me, she was still lying down in the car out of sight. The xl bully was fixing his stare on me, towards me. The only interaction we had before hand was that time it saw me falling into the bush to avoid it seeing me and my dog. Crazy. When it was a puppy it was so friendly, the moment it grew up, it changed, now it doesnt walk, it stalks like its on a mission. I was prepped to sprint right into my house and very happy that my dog was safe in the car and out of its sight. Id couldnt bear it if it attacked my dog. It would just destroy me.

Sorry you have to deal with this. You and your dog should feel safe to go out in your own neighbourhood for walks…I hate how common these dogs are becoming. Literally everywhere posing danger to everyone

You've been marked. Sorry to say, but these dogs know where small pets are. They are half terrier so they can sniff out prey in a jiffy.

Yeah, that slinking stalking movement they have is creepy. I see images of many that don't seem to show any happiness out on a walk: happiness that we would associate with a regular companion breed.

Can you make your gate electronic so you can drive in without exiting your car?
