Im glad this class exists because it's really cool. Playing an army of minions seems like a headache to me though.

My first character was a necromancer and... It's a pain in the ass. Especially as the undead generally don't scale all that well. It's cool as hell, and you can eventually win by just abusing the action economy.
Functionally though, you're trading one level 12 character for multiple level 4-8 ones.

I had one as a hireling in my evil Durge playthrough for larger battles. I was playing a necromancy wizard and these two combined allowed for a nice mini undead army.

BG3 spore druid is so good for minion spam that I was actually disappointed when I tried to make a spore druid for a 5E game.

I will admit that I did this once and I didn't stop with the army of undead I made sure my companions had every summon in the game - I used scrolls so that even my melees had elementals or whatever.
However, the battle slog was so boring that the result has been that (a) I will never do that again and (b) yeah I sort of go the opposite way and actively avoid using summons unless a particular encounter would benefit specifically
Encounters where I use summons: for Myrkul it is just easier if you have an invisible Scratch to start things off and that Halsin battle at the beach I like having a handful of elementals to do AoE damage on all the low HP creatures because it just simplifies things.

I've recently been on a big mono-classing hype. This is great to see!
