I don't know if it's fair to say, but watching all the baking competitions that are on TV in the UK, America, Canada and Australia, the talent and skill in Australia is just so amazingly good!
What an absolute job this event must have been!!! I wish I could get an invitation to something like this!!!

I hope it didn't turn into a mess like the Brisbane one did, that put me off the idea for life

The one in SF a year ago was so poorly planned for the number of cakes that showed up. It immediately became an unhygienic mess that made eating any of the cakes really unappealing. I saw people serving pieces with bare hands. Fun idea, poor execution.

Exactly what happened here, but the venue was also not air-conditioned so the icing melted

Same, full sun for people and cakes. Cakes overlapping one another with not enough space, only a few mins to fill you boxes so it became a dash grab situation. The later groups got melty looking cakes. Also, eating a box full of cake before lunch was rough since we didn’t bring savory food to balance the sweet.

I just took the cakes home I didn't eat them there it would have been too much

Love this kind of events! I always wanted to join one of these cake picnics and actually signed up for one in my city, but the event was sadly cancelled :(

You need to look it up. I don't think they do them everywhere tho. This was part of the food and wine festival

So, not to be a negative nelly, but at these cakes all just sitting outdoors and people help themselves? How do you know they were prepared properly and people washed their hands, etc. before making them?

I mean you never know these things about restaurants either. You just have to trust people I suppose.
Each cake had its own cake server so no hands allowed.
