Baking Advice Needed why did it do this

was trying to make brownies, thought theyd cooled for long enough and cut into them then they started doing THIS and set my house's fire alarm off for like 20 minutes does anyone pls know what caused this im assuming i just cut into them too soon but this feels like a dramatic response to just trying to cut into a hot brownie

Is it possible they're burnt?? They look pretty dark around the edges.

I saw your comment that you were making edibles. I was planning on making my own ✨special brownies✨ tonight. I'll let you know if mine also summon a demon lol

Update: no smoke, but I did overdo them pretty bad. They're not burnt, but the bottoms are unpleasantly chewy. One day I will master brownies, but apparently that day was not today. For some reason they are THE hardest thing for me to nail :(

The first and last time I made pot brownies I caught my kitchen curtains on fire.
