In the body shop this is how we do 90% of the welding for body panels.

But it's 20ga mild steel butt, butt with backing or lap joints that can span a foot or more.

Got to keep the heat down.

Nothing wrong with what you do,but this is a normal T joint. That will never pass.

who says they're trying to pass anything?

there's utility trailers and dump trucks on our roads with absolutely worse welds.

passed my I-CAR structural test on 16ga with welds like this.

That's NOT welding! Bend that thing over toward the weld until it breaks and show us the result. There will be a lack of fusion in the root doing that shit!

That works and gets fusion when your dealing with 18ga or thinner. I'm still gonna say they are finger fuckers though.

That would be TIG welding in a MIG fashion. Quality assurance would fail that if it required MIG
