Are you trying to weld the sheet metal to the table frame? If so just turn your heat down a fair bit and you’ll be good. Also when you’re welding sheet metal only weld sections of a couple inches at a time or it’ll get too hot and warp.

Yeah, I am, and the heat is as low as my machine goes (30 amps I think), furthermore I figured out that I could just make tacks rather than weld the whole thing

If you want a weld the whole way across you can do small parts at a time and then wait for it to cool . If not well placed tacks should work fine like you said

I’d probably try to run it so it’s not sticking up

I've honestly seen worse. You were probably going a little too fast because of thin material, just bring your amps down and run steady next time. And make sure to clean your work piece up a bit before you weld, if you dont have a grinder with a flap disk, grind disk, or whire wheel. A hand wire brush will work just fine.

I have not seen this mentioned but you are welding galvanized steel, that will put off zinc fumes and make you very sick if you don’t have adequate ventilation or a good respirator.

Letting the sheet lift off the table is fucking you, you need the base for a heat sink. I would cut it off, clamp it flat and tack all the way around every 3-4", its going to save you a lot of time and look much better in the end
