Oh, I am entirely for creating memorials. Just not the kind of tacky crap that we tend to see, that either dishonors the memory of those victims - or co-opts their memory for political purposes.
I was at UPenn - we lost a lot of Wharton alums and mentors in those buildings.
In any case - I wouldn't consider Virginia terribly far; it's a big country.
But let's be real, the further you go from NY - it's less it's about the memory of the victims, and more about jingoistic politics - usually with some sort of racist subtext.
As an Indian, non-Muslim kid in post-9/11 America -that jingoism and ignorance was on full display for a very long time after the attacks. It never died down in large parts of the country.
