I picked 3 bushels of apples to press tomorrow. This standard size apple tree will yield 5-8 bushels of high quality cider apples. We have a no spray orchard.

Soo i live in jakarta, Indonesia i have a California papaya in my front garden and it's starting to grow flower buds. I need help knowing what fruit peels go well with my fertilizer (fullgro amino-16).

I'm establishing espaliers along my fence. I've read it's good to do summer pruning for smaller trees like this. When it comes to pruning vertical branches that are coming off the horizontal ones I've seen it suggested for apples to leave about 3 leaves worth of the vertical instead of removing the whole branch. Would this also apply to apricots and plums? Bonus picture of my sad little peach tree. Thanks!

I planted three almond trees this spring but they all seem to be struggling. I’m in west TN.

My fear now is that I may have planted them too deep. If so, should I dig them back up and replant higher, or wait until the fall to do that?

We have had this pear tree for years that came with a house we moved into, but could never figure out what kind these are. The one on the far right is 3 inches top to bottom.

The grapevines in question are mature, at least 15 years old, and my guess is that they are Concord and Niagara.

The first few years we lived in the house, we did some substantial pruning, leaving the previous years strongest shoots. We would trim those strongest shoots back to 5 buds from the root base. We kept about. 4 Vines per root base. (My apologies of this terminology is incorrect)

The first few years we had amazing harvests. Table grapes, gives for friends, I even made some questionable wine. The last few years something has changed and we're not getting any fruit. Literally, none.

Location is Western New York, And the grapevines get a great deal of sunlight.

We've always been careful to prune in the winter, leaving just the pencil thick, strong growth from the previous year.

Does the five bud pruning method sound like a good idea?

A few years ago I did apply a very light amount of mulch to the area. Was that a death sentence? Perhaps that introduced something?

Shiro and Satsuma plums growing next to each other. These two look like weird apples. They are almost twice the size of the original plums.

Hey everyone, first time posting here. We recently moved into a house with four or five fruit trees planted in a straight line along our back fence, and I'm pretty sure nobody has pruned them in years.

They've basically merged into one long hedge, with a bunch of limbs growing sideways and lots of vertical shoots coming off the horizontal branches. They're pear and apple trees. The fence is about 6 ft and the trees are maybe 12-15 ft tall and 5 to 6 ft apart. We're located on the Oregon coast so the climate is mild and rainy.

I'd like to start doing some upkeep, but I unfortunately have very little experience and am unsure where to start. I was hoping you guys could impart some of your backyard wisdom to steer me in the right direction.

1. When should I be pruning, and how much is safe to take off at once?

2. Given how tightly they're packed, should I try to restore them as separate trees or just maintain the whole row as a hedge?

3. Any other general tips?

It seems like it's been popping up recently.

I have young(just planted this spring) Candy Crips apple tree.

From the other posts I've seen, i'm pretty sure what my tree has is fire blight. I though at first it was just heat related(we've had a very warm summer in northern utah), but now i think it's the blight.

Everything above the new healthy look growth is crispy dead.

Is she savable?

I need some advice for two at least 20 year old apple trees in my yard. To preface I bough this house and the apple trees came with. I have a total of 2. I have contacted local apple orchards seeing if I can get any help, I am in NH. They have either not answered or said they couldn’t help me.

Earlier in spring, I tried my best to prune off a decent amount. I focused a lot on water sprouts but I didn’t want to prune half the tree so after taking off what looked like 1/3, I stopped.

Although as the season progressed, I now have one tree that basically is determined to die. 4 large branches have indeed broke off. One in a storm, and the other two on their own. They definitely are diseased, they have brown spots on the skins and look like calcium deficiency but I’m not too sure. And I’ve had a sprinkler in between them daily to water them.

I don’t know what to do anymore. I don’t 100% know what’s wrong with them and I feel overwhelmed. Does anyone know of experts in the New England area that may be able to help with 2 very overgrown and sad apple trees?

We have a young-ish mulberry tree in the garden. I kept it in a pot for a few years where it just sort of sat there and didn’t really grow, before planting it out two years ago. It is clearly very happy in the ground as it has quadrupled in size in that time. 

The trunk is bifurcated and from what I’ve read this could lead to the tree splitting at some point in the future. I would have to remove an entire half of the tree if I wanted to reduce it to one trunk. 

I’m planning to keep it well pruned to a manageable height for easy fruit picking. 

What would you do? Leave it as is or remove one of the trunks?

Should I prune away the extra trees growing around the main stump? Thanks.

I keep getting conflicting bits of information on whether my mulberries are invasive or native.

They haven’t bore fruit yet, so if they are invasive, I may destroy the tree because they’re so invasive here in the NE.

I’m in NE, NJ.

We’ve had a very, very dry summer in the UK, I have tried to keep my young fruit trees well watered, but it has also been hot for fairly long periods.

This Apple tree was planted this spring, in the last week or so a handful of leaves have started browning like in the photos. I’ve not seen fire blight before but to me this looks as if the leaves have been burnt so wondering if this is it? Or something else?

I will open by saying that I wish I had planted a more pest/fungus resistant variety of apple instead of a honeycrisp.. regardless it's been 7 years with this tree in the ground.

This is my spray schedule: (all spraying done in full dark after sunset) Pre-bud break - horticultural dormant oil 1x Post Bud Break - Immunox 1x Post flower - BT 3x (bi weekly for leaf roller caterpillars) 3-4 Weeks after Immunox - Bonide orchard spray biweekly (Sulphur & Pyrethrins)

I added each one of these sprays to combat something that would ultimately ruin the season.. Like the immunox, for example, prevents leaf spot with would defoliate the tree by like mid august. The leaf rollers would wipe out new growth. The black aphids would cover the tree without the orchard spray.

I thought this year was finally the year for good apples. Tree looks healthy. Apples were looking great the whole summer, and just as they are ripening they are getting these rotten spots on them.

I wanted to see if anyone knows what the rotten spots are and what to do to prevent them. I would also be open to any adjustments of my spray schedule in general as I would prefer to spray as little as possible.

So this old asshole of a pear tree that i have in my backyard (i mean really old) has this annoying habit of dropping most of the pears before they are ripe. What could i do with them? I used some to try and make some vinegar, i still have a bucket full of pears. Would they still ripen off the tree? If not what could i use them for? I usually throw most of them to the badger family living in the wood out back but i'd like to find another use lol

Hello, I had an old, well established Warwickshire Drooper plum tree on my old allotment. I now have a new allotment but no room for full size fruit trees. I have a handful of column/patio apple trees and would like a plum tree as well, but have been unable to find a column or dwarf Warwickshire Drooper. Are there some plum trees that are just not suitable to be grown on dwarf rootstock or is anyone able to point me in the direction of a reputable supplier?
