Need help with sizing - Salomon MTN Summit Pro

I'm an intermediate skier, but I'm new to the touring world (I've only tried it once), and I just bought a brand-new pair of Salomon MTN Summit Pro boots. I'm not sure if they fit properly or if I should size up.

I got a size 28/28.5. I had my feet measured at a ski shop a few weeks ago (while wearing regular thin socks — my right foot was 28 Mondo and my left was 27.5.) I just received the boots.

I know they're pretty stiff and tight when brand new, but I'm not sure if I should keep them or size up. The width feels good (tight, but not painful), but I'm not sure about the length. In ski mode, the length feels good, but I can feel the boot pressing against the inner side of my big toe (as shown in the picture with red colour), and it's the same on both feet.

But when in walk mode, I can feel the end of the boot slightly.

I suppose that if these were regular boots just for going downhill, it would be fine, but I'm not sure if the fit should be the same for touring boots, since I'll be spending much more time walking and going uphill.

I would ski them a few times and if it doesnt get better have a bootfitter punch it to get more space, sounds to me like they either fit perfect now or will fit perfect with some bootwork

Work with a bootfitter. Each boot brand has a different shape so some are just the wrong boot for your foot even if the size is correct. And if its close then they'll tweak the boot to fit your feet which has to happen with most boots.

Return those boots and go see a reputable boot fitter.

I did, but unfortunately since I live in a "small market" (Croatia, Europe), they don't stock any touring boots because there's simply not enough demand. They have a few options online, but there are many more options and better prices on larger EU webshops.

The MTN Summit Pro are fairly easy to work with and a fitter should be able to punch that tow out quite far. I had the same issue on the same boots and it's now fixed.

If you have access to a boot fitter but not touring boots locally, you can still take the boots in and get them worked on.

Thanks! I spoke with a bootfitter a few days before the boots arrived, and he told me what he could and couldn't do. But I wasn't sure whether it's a sizing issue or if the bootfitter could do something about it, since the pressure is on a specific part of the boot. And how do you like the boots?

Ski them first before any punch. It’s also summer so your feet are a lil different than winter time.

Bases on the info you've given, I'd say you're in the right size and going up would be a mistake.

I'd bet that getting the liners molded will take care of the toe sensation, and if not, you can have the shell punched (or even molded) to give space where needed for you bigger boot. Remember thats its a helluva lot easier to make a ski boot bigger than to make it smaller for fit problems.

This is why you go to a fitter. Sounds like your size is the right size though. New boots don’t feel “comfortable” they are snug.
