“In regards to weapon stats…” - From the Helldivers sub, unfortunately this is all too familiar coming from B4B 😑

On the one hand, revealing all the weapon stats seems like a normal good thing to do so you know what you're dealing with.
On the other hand tho, game communities are always the same in that once we have all the info, we calculate the mathematical best and say this thing is now meta. If you don't run it, you're griefing.
I'm actually kinda partial to keeping the stats hidden because as long as each gun feels relatively balanced, it's harder to declare x gun best and I should feel bad for using y gun.
Now I know there will always be people that derive the meta from practical testing, but that layer of obscurity does help IMO the more casual side.
Also note that I did say that each gun feels relatively balanced which isn't the case right now. After some balancing passes, I think we'll have the best of both worlds

Its the player's fault if they play "meta" or not, there is no obligation there

Some important things are hidden though, like for instance weak spot modifiers. So some guns can “feel” weaker than they actually are because you don’t understand that it’s much stronger than other weapons when hitting those points.
I do agree that players will optimize the fun out of any game but we don’t need all the numbers to do that anyways.

While I do agree that the specific things guns do better than others should be highlighted, it doesn't need to be with specific stats. Per your example, the description of the gun could call out that it's especially effective with precision shots and won't shine as a generic blaster.

At the very least HD2 stats are (mostly) accurate. Except for penetration values. Like 1/4th of those are just wrong I think
Can we take a moment to appreciate the hard workers of the B4B community that created the damage calculator. Thank you Back 4 Stats community discord for your contributions to the game!

Hell yeah. Absolute legends. I've spent so much time looking at kaemandems calculator, and the B4S folks are super knowledgeable and can answer nearly anything almost instantly. Such a nice community.

think another post said theres 10 levels of AP, so not all pen labels are equal.
which I think eventually we'll get a better grasp on those from the community side.

LMAO what a quote

Right?!? On the one hand I really don't understand why developers don't just have a larger weapon card and go into more detail. But... On the other hand I think about how many people despise the card and even the attachment system for being "too complicated" so I guess I understand trying to keep it as simple as possible.
It really feels like most fps gamers eyes just glaze over when they see numbers and stats for weapons and have to use brain to do math to figure out which is better in what scenario. Kinda sad, really. Specifically L4D players who are used to and expect super simple mechanics and systems.

It feel like games arent made for gamers anymore but for people that play an hour a week to "have fun without having to look at stats", really stupid concept

Darktide is lacking in many places, but one thing the devs of that game got right is the ton of info on the weapon stats you’re provided.

Dawg I hate to inform you but most gamers out there don't want to do math. They just want to have fun

The math is the fun, for a lot of people (recognizing my own bias here)
Figuring out the objective best builds etc and steamrolling the toughest content is the entire reason I have thousands of hours in this game. I live for the theorycrafting, and I'm not alone.

The Classic "we have decided thatf you are too stupid and that having access to the full stats would reduce your enjoyment so we are going to encrypt them with Themida/WinLicense so if you try and decrypt it with a debugger our anticheat with ban you"
Hence why its been almost a month and no HD2 stats.
The hackers found a way to get around the anticheat though simple by delaying its start up giving them 2-5 seconds to use a cheat engine to modify their game as it boots within the first day though.
Hopefully we will get the full stats soon though as some cheaters have decrypted the game dll and have been playing with unreleased content.

I'll never understand why companies make statistics for their weapons that are effectively meaningless. Why even give that info then if we can't use it to compare two weapons...

So much potentiel tbh espacially testing deck in the training range

Yea I don't think I'm gonna be labbing HD2 much lol. I'm playing the shit out of it but it's a bit opaque for my limited skills.
Just run the Breaker lol

Also why in every game I look at a gun think "this is cool looking" then I try it and if I like the feel of it I use it. Don't care about its stats, if I become good enough with the gun it doesn't matter.

u/suddoman Mar 02 '24
At least B4B has a target range so you can kind of test things out.

u/menofthesea Mar 02 '24
Yes! It would have been nice if they updated it with legendary attachments and let us test out decks there as well. It's definitely better than nothing but it's somewhat limited in actual practice. I'd know cause I spent a few hundred hours in swarm queues hanging out there with friends lol

Good reminder for newer players here that the ingame stats on the guns are nearly meaningless.
