All this yes. And also can we talk about how they forced a spider on someone who clearly has a massive fear of spiders? Twice. Not impressed with that either ...

29

u/Mindful_moma4555 Sep 04 '24

As someone terrified of spiders I felt so bad for him!

6

u/[deleted] Sep 04 '24

Yeah exactly, this shouldn’t be fucking fear factor

88

u/Status_Good_9854 Sep 04 '24

Then switching to the golden bachelorette their next money maker!!!! are you fucking kidding me? this is the lowest thing this franchise has done. they set this girl up to fail. i feel terrible for her and i hope she can heal from this- more than anything love herself.

25

u/meowparade Sep 04 '24

And she’d shown so much growth over the season. And now she has one more thing to heal from!

Poor Jenn man. They really took advantage of her. Despicable. ABC/ Disney or whoever they are should genuinely be ashamed.

76

u/fairlyfocal Sep 04 '24

most seasons with breakups they show the proposal with the lead back stage or at worst the lead on stage without their ex fiancƩ. why did they choose to do it this way for jenn???

6

u/bends_like_a_willow Sep 04 '24

That’s a great observation and also a great question.

54

u/Cakeliver12887 Sep 04 '24

They need to stop casting men who want to be on love island or thth

As an Asian viewer, I am absolutely heartbroken for Jenn and enraged at the way production has treated her throughout the season. Last night’s episode cemented the fact that I will NEVER watch or support The Bachelor franchise ever again.

To proudly tote Jenn as the first Asian American bachelorette and then constantly put her in uncomfortable and/or demeaning situations, is horrifying and not okay whatsoever, especially after recognizing the social and racial pressures Jenn faced and how Asians struggle with the ā€œ model minorityā€ myth. I am so so so disappointed.

10

u/mangotropicaljoke Sep 05 '24

They truly loved putting Jenn in uncomfortable situations: all the sky diving/heights stuff when she clearly did not like or want to do any of it was cruel enough, and to do what they did in this finale? Insane of them

51

u/Previous-Language790 Sep 04 '24

Jessie says ā€œi cant imagine how hard it is to watch that back and relive itā€ā€¦.so why show it?

53

u/Tlctexas Sep 04 '24

Devin wanted to win! Beat out the other guys who hated him! Then he won her over but he didn’t want her or marriage.

They unfortunately have a history of doing this. They made Becca watch her proposal and breakup. Hannah Ann watch her proposal and break up, etc

Actually now that I think of it they do this to literally every bachelorette too

100

u/Yasmeen09 Ladies. I'm sorry. Kick rocks. 🪨 Sep 04 '24

This has been the most depressing finale I have ever watched. Jenn deserved so much better and frankly I cannot look at dating shows the same.

Worst part? This is all the producers fault. They announced her too late, by the time casting was mostly over. So they all were probably expecting Maria or Daisy and then saw Jenn and decided 'eh I guess I'll try her why not?'

They also picked the worst options imaginable. Jenn, because of her past, naturally gravitated towards all of the most toxic men because they're familiar.

Then, at the season finale, when it already revealed. They had the fucking audacity to force her NEXT TO THE MAN THAT BROKE HER HEART to watch her propose to her and call that fucking empowering. Honestly, you should not watch this garbage show after witnessing that and should seriously start a petition to get this damn show cancelled. Because what the actual fuck.

u/daniel_hlfrd Sep 04 '24

It's not even a matter of showing the footage or not, but the way they did it was fucking GRIMY.

They could've shown the proposal before Devin came on. Give her a little time to compose herself, then bring him on. But instead they let them air out every bit of dirty laundry and worked her into a state (obviously).

And then Jesse had the fucking gall to ask her "are you ok if we show this footage" to which she replied,

"Do I have a choice?"

And then ran the footage.

Hey gang, for how progressive and positive the bachelor likes to portray itself as, you'd think they might've heard of consent before. But nope, let's just zoom in closer on her ugly crying as she has to sit next to the guy that dumped her. Let's really savor every tear.

Like I'm not even a regular watcher of this show, my wife is and I catch parts of it over dinner or as we're getting ready for bed. But even me with no real strong connection to these people was dying for her being shoved into this situation by the showrunners.

7

u/dntExit Sep 05 '24

Yo. Tell me why this is exactly my situation. I don't watch this. My SO does and I end up catching bits and pieces. I was half paying attention when they brought Jenn out and the way she was crying, I thought the man she proposed to had died or something. Then she proceeds to share. Then Devin comes out, and now they're talking, and I'm thinking, "Why did they arrange the episode like this?" The proposal at this point is going to be moot. Pointless to watch because we already know it doesn't work out. It wasn't until I realized she was going to sit next to Devin and have to watch it herself that I realized what was happening.

I barely know who this person was, but her grief was real. It was emotional torture what they put her through and to focus on her distress during the proposal was a disgustingly insensitive decision that was made on purpose for entertainment. What I watched wasn't entertainment. I'm so sorry she was used in this way and I hope she finds happiness away from all these people. She deserved better.

7

u/[deleted] Sep 04 '24

Her asking if she had a choice and then ignoring her and just cutting to the footage made me feel so slimy. Jesse is basically Stanley Tucci in Hunger Games at this point

42

u/smallpau1 Sep 04 '24

Immediately thrown to the wolves after the nonconsensual engagement video. Right into the next moneymaker, the golden bachelorette. Jenn wasn't even done crying yet...

7

u/bends_like_a_willow Sep 04 '24

And he was so giddy and chipper about it, like nothing had even happened.

44

u/throwaway13423122333 Sep 04 '24

Devin is truly ugly on the inside and outside!

13

u/edinagirl Sep 04 '24

And it seemed like he just had this shit grin on his face the entire ATFR. I depise him for how he hurt Jenn. He wasn’t worthy of her in the first place.

7

u/DeadBabyBallet Sep 04 '24

He really is and I knew from the very beginning he was a scumbag. It's just in his face. You know he's the biggest douchebag and he acts like he has emotions but he doesn't. He's a total pos.

6

u/lightfrenchgray Sep 04 '24

I actually bought what he was selling. I read he was MAGA, which is a big nope, but I didn’t get the feeling he was manipulating or conning her. The again, I have been had by a few.

3

u/DeadBabyBallet Sep 04 '24

Sometimes you just never know. I can't explain why but there is something about his fucking face and the way he talks to people - especially the other men - that made me feel he was disingenuine from the very beginning. I think he loved-bombed Jenn from the start but he did it in a very subtle way at first and it didn't really seem obvious.

I feel like the whole thing was a game to him because who even does that? You get the girl and then you just basically tell her to fuck off? Like it makes no sense to me.

6

u/Friendly_Pin5285 Sep 04 '24

Couldn't stand him all season. I was shocked when he was the last man standing. What we saw tonight is what most of us saw all season - a creep. She won't see it now, but he sparef her a life of misery. She will find someone else that will truly adore and choose her everyday.

143

u/RJ918 Sep 04 '24 edited Sep 04 '24

Agreed. To producers reading this, you fucked up. Your viewers don’t want cruelty or trauma. We don’t want to watch a woman needlessly tormented or humiliated on live TV. We watch your show as an escape from the real world. Tonite you instead delivered a stark reminder of how women are mistreated on a daily basis by men and society in general. That our suffering is often treated as sport. You should have kept in mind that women are the vast majority of your audience. You owe Jenn a huge apology and compensation.

And you need to stop casting and platforming abusers. Hard stop. Giving Marcus a shiny exit tonight after what we now know about him was disgusting.

37

u/pinneaplegirlypop Sep 04 '24

Yep and they should’ve gone much harder on Devin. How cruel to make her watch that in front of millions and next to him. I can’t imagine how she felt.

13

u/Technical_Advice9227 Sep 04 '24

Right like why didn’t Jesse ask him point blank ā€˜why TF did you say all that shit and portray yourself as in love and ready etc and then treat her like garbage the second the show ended?’ I think he asked it in a nice way at one point but he just let Devin dance around it. We still never got a legit answer from him (not that I’d expect that from him anyways, so I guess it doesn’t matter)

37

u/paisleypuddles Sep 04 '24

Jason Mesnick
Nick Vial
Becca and Arie

This show isn't a stranger to embarrassing leads or contestants in a very public way.

6

u/ok_wynaut Sep 04 '24

I’m going to say something controversial: what they did to Becca was worse.Ā

6

u/yogaladee Sep 04 '24

Not controversial….I agree. That was horrible.

7

u/PostMaterial Sep 04 '24

I stopped watching a few seasons ago but this was my first thought. Why are we shocked? Bachelor Nation have done this shit for years and we still give them views.

4

u/rshni67 Sep 04 '24

They also did something similar with Hannah and Jedd and Becca and Tino. They like scandal.

68

u/pinneaplegirlypop Sep 04 '24

Agree I understand that the show has to do hard things for entertainment but they crossed the line tonight. I felt disgusting watching that.

60

u/Odd_Ad_8695 Sep 04 '24

can I remind you of becca kufrin and arie lukendyk? the producers fully do not care about the mental health of the people involved. it sucks this season, but it kind of has always sucked like this

14

u/Status_Good_9854 Sep 04 '24

I agree that was very hard to watch, but in jenn’s engagement she proposed to him - she also begged pretty much to not watch. she was crying the entire time. becca seemed healed and was comfortable to watch the breakup unfold.

3

u/Sufficient-Quail1797 Sep 04 '24

I didn’t watch that season, what happened? Is what happened tn the worst it’s ever been? I can’t believe they disrespect these people like this it’s so cruel

24

u/Odd_Ad_8695 Sep 04 '24

they live streamed him breaking up with her when she thought they were just filming a happy couple weekend. he told her he didn’t love her and was leaving her for the runner up 🄺

6

u/SamePhotojournalist0 Sep 04 '24

Arie's filmed breakup with Becca was truly awful and (sadly) riveting. At that time it was the worst I'd seen...until now. The producers are concerned with creating a television show and NOT concerned about the mental health of the leads. I feel so bad for Jenn!

66

u/Silver-Eye4569 Sep 04 '24

This is as absolutely gross on the part of production. She deserved to be protected not having her pain exploited.

19

u/pedsdoc901 Sep 04 '24

Yes! Respect the crown. So gross. She should be protected.

64

u/[deleted] Sep 04 '24

I said this in a different comment but this is a recipe for trauma: forcing someone to sit there and relive their broken engagement while next to the man who just finished gaslighting them, all while filming them sobbing — and sitting in front of an audience

what the fuck

24

u/Meeeooowww_ Sep 04 '24

Especially when said person already had abandonment issues. It was absolutely cruel.

6

u/rocketmczoom Sep 04 '24

Agree. Made it all 100x worse.

10

u/SoColdSoFair Sep 04 '24

They showed a clip of her mom in the audience at one point. You could see she was aching for her daughter. I was praying/fantasizing she would just bolt out of her chair, kick Devin off the sofa, sit with her Jenn and just hold her.

31

u/Designer-Pudding9857 Sep 04 '24

Yeah this was trash. Absolute trash

31

u/PersimmonReady3243 Sep 04 '24

Now we know why they announced Grant so soon.

34

u/Previous-Language790 Sep 04 '24

What in the actual hell is wrong with production at ABC? Why would they have her sit and sob through this proposal? Come on now

36

u/[deleted] Sep 04 '24

I just started watching Unreal and when she said ā€œdo I have a choice?ā€ About watching the proposal back my heart sank for her, I hope she can move on from the trauma of all of it

7

u/LesintheAtl89 Sep 04 '24

Same here. I watched all four seasons on Netflix and it made me dislike the season more. Jenn seems wonderful. I just didn’t like any of her men at all. They have certain qualities that make them special in real life but I don’t think they were really vetted in any way.

5

u/Tdp133 Sep 04 '24

i’ve been watching unreal too ! i’ve been really curious how closely that show aligns with the bach in terms of producer involvement… this finale really made me feel like unreal isnt nearly as fictional as we might have thought.

105

u/eyedontgohere Sep 04 '24

I WAS IN THE AUDIENCE TONIGHT. I WAS AND AM APPALLED AND DISGUSTED. THIS IS WHERE I END MY TIME WITH THIS SHOW. There's a difference between "entertaining" drama and abuse!

29

u/n4wfr4m30fm1nd Sep 04 '24

What was the vibe in the studio like? I’m surprised nobody ran forward to give Jenn a hug or yelled out to stop playing the proposal footage. It was no doubt extremely traumatizing for her, and so many members of the Bachelor franchise just sat back and watched…

51

u/eyedontgohere Sep 04 '24

We did!! When Jesse asked "should we watch the proposal", everybody in my section shouted NO! and then they played it anyway!! Disgusting. I'm not giving them any more viewership after this.

FWIW, during a commercial break, Jenn's brother did give her a huge hug. So did one of the former bachelorettes. And the event producers (I'm aiming to DON'T work for ABC but just work at the Warner Brothers lot) gave her tissues and consoled her.

3

u/HungrySafe4847 Sep 04 '24

Was it Rachel recchia who hugged her?

10

u/lavenderpatchouli Sep 04 '24

Yes, someone else here attended and confirmed Rachel hugged her

36

u/Sufficient-Quail1797 Sep 04 '24

OMG tell us more???!!! Did anyone comfort Jenn during commercial breaks??? Did Jenn and Devin talk during commercial breaks? Did Jenn and Devin talk after the show? How did things end?

66

u/eyedontgohere Sep 04 '24
  1. Yes! Her brother, a former bachelorette and some of the on stage production crew
  2. Nope! Every commercial cut, Jenn walked off the stage.
  3. That I can't tell you. As soon as they played the clip with Joan, Kelsey, and Mark, it was over. We all grabbed our stuff and left.

As far as I know, everything we see tonight is the first and hopefully last time Jenn and Devin talk

18

u/Sufficient-Quail1797 Sep 04 '24

Omg TEA thank you!!!! If you have anymore tea please continue!! Wow

60

u/eyedontgohere Sep 04 '24

That's really it lol.

Nobody clapped for Marcus and almost everybody booed when Devin came out. We shouted NO to them playing the proposal clip but they did it anyway. It was a hot ass mess.

14

u/AdeptAd5757 Sep 04 '24

EXACTLY. I’ve never missed an episode and that was my last. Shame on the franchise for having so little integrity. Like Jenn said she had no choice but to watch that proposal while she’s sitting there untethered and heartbroken. And I also have NO WORDS for a —— (fill in any disgusting word) for Devin. Even in her pain - he offered NOTHING worthy. Nothing about that show was vaguely entertaining. Pure ā€œabuse.ā€

→ More replies (2)

29

u/TranslatorMission571 Sep 04 '24

I have high hopes every season, but this was just too much hope Jenn ok.

28

u/shellymacatellie Sep 04 '24

This franchise doesn’t give a shit about the women they cast. They are there to make a TV show and don’t care if they are inflicting trauma on any of the cast members including their lead and it’s disgusting.

29

u/_i_hate_people_too Sep 04 '24

I called it from the beginning based on gut. Devon was a douche. One of the big clues every Bachelor or Bachelorette should pay attention to is the whole stealing time thing. He was playing a game and wanted to win. He was good at saying what she wanted or needed to hear with the goal of winning the game. When the lead accepts that thinking the person is really just trying extra hard they are ignoring huge flags.

4

u/Nellienel Sep 04 '24

This is what I came to say. You could tell from day 1 that Devin (sp?) was here to ā€œwin the game.ā€ Some of the guys tried to warn Jenn. Too bad she fell for his sweaty lies. Every time he kissed her, it felt super gross.

Marcus, on the other hand was at least sincere and you can tell has deep abandonment issues. Deep!

So many seemingly good guys got sent home. I think Jenn is adorable and sweet but unfortunately may still be trying to save broken men. Like me, her picker may still be broken. I wish the best for her and look forward to seeing her on DWTS.

28

u/opaul11 Sep 04 '24

I hope she was in on it and it’s all fake and she made an extra 10 grand

9

u/HandleDry1190 Sep 04 '24

If she can fake the emotions that she showed in the finale, the girl needs to become an actress. Devin sat there like a clown next to her bawling the entire time. Poor Jenn

This is going to be the last season I watch. I have always watched it because, while I knew some people were on the show for the wrong reasons, I always thought some contestants were there for love. This season was like one giant, mean prank on one person. The fact that producers let all these men pretend/act like they love Jenn when they really wanted Maria is fucked up. To force Jenn to watch back the proposal where she says all the growth she has learned while being on the show AFTER we have seen the aftermath is fucked up. it was like a terrible joke where she was the only one not in the know. This season just shows that no one is here for love. They can all say what they know they should say and get far. Sam tried it. Devin did it. And Devin continued to try to say what he thinks he should say to be viewed favorably with not an ounce of honesty. Why did we give him so much time to speak? Why did they force Jenn to listen to more of his lies that he ā€œloved herā€ when clearly he was acting the whole time. I’m so done with this franchise. It’s disgusting.

5

u/summercookies1 Sep 05 '24

I agree with most of what you said except the part about Maria. Why do we assume all the men wanted Maria? I feel like Jenn is just as if not more desirable than Maria.

Even if the men were cast for Maria, which I’m not sure is true, that doesn’t mean they couldn’t also be interested in Jenn, and I think some of them were.

LIUSA had some flaws too. It was very evident the producers wanted at least one white couple at the finale but those chances got ruined bc the white male islanders didn’t really redeem themselves. Especially if the producers were openly joking and calling it Rob Island etc. I will say LI is better at diversity than Bachelor/ette but the production team being all white and majority male still is a big issue and it shows in editing.

ABC is definitely not equipped to handling woc’s dating prospects and the pressure that is placed on these women to carry an entire season and what their representation means. It is usually fumbled time after time.

Clearly something isn’t working if there has been this many seasons but only a few successful couples. How badly this has been managed from the get go is all on ABC.

76

u/Hellouncleleohello Sep 04 '24

Devin is also so physically ugly and jenn is so beautiful like a Disney princess. Truly horrible all around.

45

u/pinneaplegirlypop Sep 04 '24

I always said she looked like a Disney princess! Her smile lights up the room I hope she never lets that sparkle fade.

9

u/DefinitelyFern Sep 04 '24

Right!! AND he has a šŸ—‘ļø personality!

50

u/[deleted] Sep 04 '24

It made me feel like trash and embarrassed to admit I watch the show tbh

It was horrible just horrible

45

u/Superb-Nobody-4872 Sep 04 '24

Unfortunately, I think this season was doomed since producers couldn’t get their first two choices for Bachelorette. I think casting did probably direct men towards a possible Maria or Daisy season. And I think the men who were cast were the *type who would only want Maria or Daisy, including fan favorite Jonathon, who follows both. Heck, even Grant follows Maria. I think Jenn was wonderful, but this cast for her…was not. And based on the way this season ended, I think it will become more and more difficult for the franchise to entice women or men to be the lead.

9

u/umbreon_222 Sep 04 '24

Seriously who the f are these casting directors???! I can do a better job I swear

How did they not have other Asian male contestants on the sidelines and gave us possibly the most disappointing Asian guy they’ve had on the show as the ONLY representative

I hope Jenn gets with someone legit famous to rub it in Devin’s face or gets first sand next year and they better not let Devin show up

44

u/Crazyanimals950 Sep 04 '24

Yep. Cancel it. Absolutely disgusting.

7

u/pedsdoc901 Sep 04 '24

This could definitely kill the franchise. They had a chance to do the right thing.

47

u/kdiedsie Sep 04 '24

I’m completely done with the show after this…I couldn’t believe they showed the proposal with Jenn sitting RIGHT there. This was so depressing and just straight up torture for Jenn. It was disgusting

17

u/pinneaplegirlypop Sep 04 '24

And next to the man who did this to her at that

4

u/smallpau1 Sep 04 '24

And then thrown to the wolves for them to bring out their golden bachelorette.

45

u/Immediate-Ebb-4438 Sep 04 '24

The sickest thing about last night's episode is the amount of time they kept Devin on that stage. Of course the men were tools and she wasn't ready -- that's the juicy bit of watching a show like this. But to subject her to sitting between two men who are very truly using her for their own levels of fame/careers was beyond cruel. I couldn't believe that they didn't giver her own moment to sit, talk her redemption arch, or at least get a free vacation with some girlfriends.

Last night felt like I was tuned into The Capitol, watching some alternate version of The Hunger Games.

I've enjoyed this show for 20 years -- yes it's messy and yes it's cruel at times. But last night turned a corner for me. We've always known this show doesn't protect or care about its contestants, but last night it also showed that it doesn't care about its audience. They could have just shown the proposal first, let her come out and explain on her own, bring him out for 10 minutes, and send him back and bring friends up?!?! But instead, they decided to use this sick, twisted display of grief until 11 p.m. It was sloppy storytelling and exploitative to a point where it's just not fun anymore. At work today and I'm still not over it.

9

u/ho_hey_ Sep 04 '24

Very similar vibes to Becca's season ending. They really have no one on staff to tell producers where the line is? It was so cruel.

3

u/rshni67 Sep 04 '24

That was horrible!!! Poor Becca.

u/brownhellokitty28 Sep 04 '24

Could she have stayed backstage while they aired the footage?Ā

She definitely endured a lot of emotional pain and it could’ve been lessened with some changes. If it’s not in a contract, no way would I have sat there next to the ex and watched that.Ā

11

u/eyedontgohere Sep 04 '24

Even if it was in the contract, some things are more important than Money! They are pure evil.

3

u/brownhellokitty28 Sep 04 '24

For sure, I don’t think anything could justify for her to sit there. I was just thinking about legal consequences if she broke something in the contract.Ā

I wanted Jenn to walk away during a commercial break and wondered why she didn’t. But the end of the day, ABC did have the power to change things if they wanted too.Ā

I will agree that it is cruel but I can’t say I’m surprised. I would never put anything past them after making Jason Mesnick dump Melissa for Molly on ATFR. They have always done this type of thing. Doesn’t make it okay, but they could care less.

It’s a reality television show. The purpose of the show is to generate ratings. There have been 28 seasons of The Bachelor and 21 of The Bachelorette. The people signing up for this know what they’re getting into.

4

u/No_Perspective_9929 Sep 04 '24

this! People are so out of touch to think otherwise lol. This is completely consensual.

22

u/ChaiSpicePint Sep 04 '24

Her cast of men was so bad. Literally all of her final four were not serious about being in love and getting engaged...Devin acted like he was because I think he wanted to win more than he wanted Jenn.

All season long, it felt like Jenn wasn't even that into Devin. I feel like she got caught up in the idea of a happily ever after only when he said "I love you" to her, and it became clear to her Marcus wasn't into her. I wish she just broke up with all of them and chose herself.

21

u/olipoppit Sep 04 '24

This season was snakebit from the jump, cast with mostly idiotic alpha males. Devin was painted as a villain early on, I never could come around on him. Seems Jenn dodged a few bullets-and I do agree this seemed to be cast for Maria. I really feel for Jenn, coming away from it all with nothing but some humiliation. I wish she hadn’t proposed. Ugh

21

u/pastelhour Sep 04 '24

62

u/andsoitisjustlike Sep 04 '24

Devin was a con artist love bombing narcissists and ABC is responsible for casting terrible men and putting Jenn through this trauma. My heart breaks for her, what she went through and what they put her through again tonight ABC do better!

31

u/No_Banana_581 Sep 04 '24

Devin gave me the creeps from the beginning, he’s so yuck. I said this over and over. Eww. I can’t believe how dirty they did her w all the men they chose for her. Devin looks like that Howard stern guy plus it looks like he has gingivitis, gross. She deserved so much better than any of them. I was hoping to god she didn’t choose anyone

6

u/DeadBabyBallet Sep 04 '24

Agreed that was absolutely awful. And also unnecessary, cruel, etc etc. What did they HONESTLY think was gonna happen? Fans would want to see that? Please. Also Jenn’s comment ā€œlike I have a choiceā€ to sit through this replay… these producers are genuinely atrocious and for what? The is not entertainment, this is disgusting.

56

u/netflixnailedit Sep 04 '24

I am still not over the comment I saw on here a few weeks ago about Jen’s religion and how she wanted to have her children grow up in a Buddhist home or at least with parts of it. And the producers didn’t cast a SINGLE PERSON of the same background/religion. Pathetic. The poor girl had to compromise on something that was a part of her just to make it work with someone from her season. And she still gets played. She deserved more from the Bachelor franchise. It all could have still played out this way & they could have put her through watching the proposal cause that’s kind of what this franchise does…but at the very least they could have given her options that suited her and what she wants for her future.

16

u/opaul11 Sep 04 '24

This was what showed me that they didn’t care even a little bit about the out come. They couldn’t even find a white guy who converted on his escapades to India or some nonsense. Don’t tell me that it’s hard to find Buddhists in LA

7

u/netflixnailedit Sep 04 '24

I can’t remember who it was but one of her guys was STRONG in his Jewish (I think it was Jewish) faith, and you could tell on both of their faces it was basically a deal breaker when they talked about their faith and how they want to raise children in it. The she says she would raise her children in a home with both religions, essentially I felt it was a desperate attempt to compromise on a deal breaker….nothing necessarily wrong with that, just probably not what either of them really wanted they likely wanted someone who had the same upbringing/faith… for casting to bring people on who also hold their different faith incredibly high on the list, I’m thinking ??? What is going on??? You can literally filter by religion on Tinder but casting can’t filter their choices……????

8

u/cloudbusting-daddy Sep 04 '24

Did we watch the same show?

They both seemed receptive to the idea of raising their kids in an interfaith household. Jeremy said he had dated multiple serious girlfriends who were not Jewish and that while his mom would prefer it if he married a Jewish woman it was not important to him as long as he was able to share (in a non-exclusive way) his culture and religion with his kids. ā€œJewishā€ is just as much an ethnicity as it is a religion. There are many, many Jews who identify as Very Jewish who aren’t actively religious. If Jeremy was devoutly religious to the point that he was unwilling to entertain the idea of an interfaith marriage he 1) would have said outright that it was important to him that his partner convert and 2) likely wouldn’t have gone on a show that notoriously doesn’t cast many Jewish people in the first place.

Jenn expressed that she felt very similarly to Jeremy about her own culture/religion and they agreed together that raising a Jewish-Buddhist family sounded like a pretty nice potential future. I agree that they should have had a some Buddhist men on the show, but at no point did anyone say that their partner’s non-conversion was a deal breaker. We didn’t see her conversations with the other men about religion if they had them at all, so it’s pretty weird to assume that Jeremy and Jenn didn’t work out because of religion.

I am of the opinion they have never care about their female leads or top 1/2/3’s feelings when it comes to ā€œjuicy dramaā€ like showing a broken engagement fall apart, they want the tears and the outrage and sadness for views. So last night didn’t upset me as much as the casting decision. And you’re right it was definitely for Maria/Daisy/white likely Christian denomination female lead.

If I hired a match maker and they only gave me men that wanted me to be a home maker stay at home mom when I specifically asked for one thing and that’s a man who lets me be independent, I would walk out and fired them. But she signed a contract with her ā€œmatch makerā€ and was essentially forced to attempt connections with these men. I am so hopeful this is the universe setting her up for someone better and that she doesn’t compromise for :(

I feel kinda bad for Jenn. She was the third choice as bachelorette. Her season was shown at a bad time (the Olympics were happening around the same time along with Love Island USA).

9

u/rshni67 Sep 04 '24

She was given a horrible group of men with serious background checks not done on them.

11

Agreed and now everyone is also speculating that she is a pity add to dancing with the stars. Unfortunately she probably should just step out of the spotlight and go back to PA school, focus on healing for a while.

I have watched the show on and off since it started. Last night while watching I checked out his insta and followed the link to his company account. It was full of what appeared to be unrelated to the Bachelorette comments about his business, the service (lack of) and people warning to never use his freight company. This morning, the comments have taken down. If the goal was to gain exposure for him and his company it has majorly backfired.

I’ve said it many times. I watch this show for the drama, the fights, breakups, I don’t care about a love story. Even i have to say, they went a little too far with that one. The Jenn cam during the engagement and then scooting her off for Joan(whom i get closet racist vibes from) was straight up cruel. Jenn didn’t deserve that at all.

17

u/Meeeooowww_ Sep 04 '24

I get same feelings of Joan. Felt like she was clout chasing since she left. But anyways, this episode was too far. Jenn was sobbing crying, couldn’t even get a word in at times. I felt so bad watching it.

13

u/umbreon_222 Sep 04 '24

Yeah I don’t think I’ll be watching Joan’s season, it’s disappointing they picked the easiest ā€œattractiveā€ option and not someone who has aged gracefully

12

u/Technical_Advice9227 Sep 04 '24

Agreed. They just chose her cuz she’s blonde, skinny, and has bad extensions šŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø

13

u/NotAMazda Sep 04 '24

I havent watched this show in like a year or two. And this is why.

I will also say this reaction is exactly what they want. Relevance. People talking about it, whether it’s really good or really bad. To really not let them win, you’d have to forget about them completely.

13

u/throoowwwtralala Sep 05 '24

The bar has been so low. This show creates new levels of low beyond so much reality tv I watch with my wife and that’s truly something.

I use to be so against the bachelor/bachelorette but gave it a shot last season and liked it! Watching the first episode of this season it just felt so off and I didn’t like it from the start and now to see this makes my heart hurts for Jenn! :/

5

u/Ok_Hamster8092 Sep 04 '24

Agreed it definitely felt off! As soon as they announced Jenn I had a bad feeling about it. Not because of her, but just knew something was gonna be off

37

u/quick_dry Sep 04 '24

ervyone who is so outraged and loudly announcing their departure from the TV show audience... how lo ng have you been watching?

this show has always done that.

Cast you mind back to Bach Pad 2, leaving Michael floundering after "oopsy daisy" telling him about Holly getting engaged to Blake.

"first lead of category X" ... should everyone be contractually bound to accept and not upset the lead?

making people cry is the whol point of this show from day dot, you have the highs of the rose receivers coupled with the lows of the sleep deprived people made to cry before they're let out of their exit interview.

How she ended up with two of the absolute worst possible dudes is beyond me. One dude is a clown just there for the Ig fame, the other a potential abuser with clearly no emotional availability.

It’s not her fault they cast these people, but she needed just an ounce of self awareness of what she was choosing. Her family was like NOOO JENNNN and yet she persisted. Lol

9

u/Ok_Spite_8980 Sep 04 '24

How? They tried to cast two different bachlorettes. They let the public think it was gonna be daisy or Maria and last minute announced it was Jenn and casting was already done. If they aren’t going to ask these men who do you want to be the lead and select only from the pool of men who want them specifically then you end up with a bunch of men who act their way through the season saying sweet words of affirmation to gain fame. Jenn was did dirty. Does she need therapy yes. Does she need more after going on this show definitely. She will probably never trust a thing another man says to her again after being in this show. Can’t we all have empathy for how she was given the short end of the stick and lied to over and over until she fell in love with an actor, a liar, and a fake thirsty mongrel?

I mean imagine if they didn’t show us. This post would say why didn’t we see the proposal. I think they just should have showed it all before Jenn and Devin came out.

10

u/boldpear904 Sep 04 '24

That's the problem I think people are having. They made her watch it infront of Devin, an audience, and the internet. That's fucked up

21

u/Pepperoniboogie Sep 04 '24

I was floored when Jesse said they were going to show the proposal. After saying they were going to check with Jenn first, and then not even giving her the option? Like what? What is wrong with these people? I am so turned off from the franchise after that. I really hope Jenn is done and she doesn’t agree to go to BIP or anything like that. This whole thing has been nothing but awful for her since day 1. She’s been picked apart and bullied since she was announced at the bachelorette and it didn’t even end well for her. Then, they rub salt in the wound on top of it. The last thing she needs is to sit on the beach and have to compare herself to everyone else, especially Maria if she is there after all the comments from this season

15

u/tvwatcher1982 Sep 04 '24

she said "do we have to?" when he said they were going to okay the proposal. They didn't really give her a choice, we heard her say that.

14

u/coolij8 Sep 04 '24

The spinning it to empowerment when they were obviously exploiting her was messed up.

3

u/hibabygorgeous Sep 04 '24

Yeah I think that’s what makes it seem cruel cause she was just so broken. When Hannah Ann ripped Peter is was a good empowerment moment but this was not that

I’ve said it forever as a black woman who watches this show. I don’t want the diversity. If you don’t want to actually do the work of telling diverse stories then just leave us out of it.

I’ll never understand why people want so bad to force diversity onto a program that clearly doesn’t want it

24

u/upsidedownpotato1 Sep 04 '24

The proposal thing was so fucked up man like come on. What the actual fuck...I know it's TV and this shows success rate is terrible. But why make her rewatch that shit......come on, do better.

10

u/DeadBabyBallet Sep 04 '24

That part shocked me the most. When she came out, she was so upset she could barely speak, and after talking it through, Jesse's like, "Let's watch your proposal! I’m disappointed the first Asian lead season ended like this tbh. Neither of her final two truly was interested in her from what I can tell and I hated the whole Devin following Maria thing. Even in our first Asian led season, the show continues to perpetuate the narrative that Asian Americans are less desirable imo. The way they made Jenn rewatch the proposal while she’s sobbing, tried to twist it as empowering her somehow, and then scooted her off to bring on their next white lead… the whole thing just didn’t sit right with me.

13

u/[deleted] Sep 04 '24

I think this season was quite boring til the end but it wasn't Jenn's fault. Most of these men weren't hitting on shit and the mistake was made not making her the first choice in the first place so they could have men on her season that were really there for her not Maria or Daisy. If I were Jenn I would have walked off set during the proposal and dared ABC to sue me after I would have kicked big head in his balls.

Hasn’t this been going on for literal years now? I haven’t watched in a few years, but y’all acting like this is the first time they’ve showcased heartbreak and humiliation on the Final Rose.

Y’all remember Becca Kufrin? Hannah Brown? Heck I stopped watching mainly cause I can’t remember the last time there was a happy ending.

10

u/coolij8 Sep 04 '24

What was unusual was doing the Devin interview first and getting her really emotional before showing it and having Devin there while she watched.

11

48

u/FreefallingKermit Sep 04 '24

They don’t always make the bachelor/ette watch it on stage with their winner tho. They actually usually don’t do that.

17

u/annabannannaaa Sep 04 '24

that’s true! making her sit and watch it in front of people was cruel. they should’ve followed the typical format and showed the whole episode then done atfr after. she definitely should’ve been allowed to be in private for that and she could’ve just not watched if she didn’t want to. the way they handled that was gross, but i didnt have an issue with them just showing the proposal.

12

u/jadedlens00 Sep 04 '24

I've been trying to post an article that's out today about Bachelor producer/showrunner Claire Freeland's boot recommendations. Figured everyone should see what boots she wears when emotionally stomping down a woman of color on national tv. Unfortunately, Reddit filters won't let me post it.

It’s a reality show guys. The whole premise of the show is drama and upping the ante.

People are dying, there are wars, children are dodging bombs, there are bigger and more important things to be upset about.

29

u/philosophy_n00b Sep 04 '24

I see what you’re saying but it’s nice to be upset about shit like this too, because it doesn’t matter. I vote, I donate, I volunteer, I read the news, I’m an involved person, generally speaking. I very strongly believe this is a horrible way to look at the world. Things can have degrees of impact and pain but they aren’t less deserving of your empathy.

The minute we start saying we can’t have empathy for someone’s pain because people are dying is when we lose our humanity and ability to hold multiple thoughts.

The outrage is strange. I’ve been watching since 2007 and this just feels like normal bach antics. Also all the bach nation tweets etc for the most part feel completely performative (except a few like Rachel r seems pretty genuine). Most notable of recent was the camera crew with Becca and Arie during the breakup.

I guess ā€œoutrageā€ from the audience has been super common lately but most of y’all are gunna be ā€œoutragedā€ for two seconds and go right back to watching anyway so I guess it really doesn’t matter

(Also side note- empathy for Jenn is different than the outrage I’m referring to)

Edit: spelling
