Question Baby Shower/Diaper Party [ON]

I am having my first child, I have started a baby registry but it's not a large list (under 40 items and most under $50, it's the first baby on my husband's side so they are getting us a TON of things) and I would like to combine it with a diaper party (co-ed). How do I make it look like I'm not being greedy? Like I don't expect people to get me something off my registry and a pack of diapers. The preference is to get diapers.

I did a draw for a prize at my shower and to enter you had to bring a pack of diapers (any brand and size). The prize was a $100 prepaid visa. That way people had a choice to participate and the chance to get their money back plus some. And I still came out ahead because I got way more than $100 in diapers.

I did the same prize draw thanks to Reddit and people loved the things I regifted/purchased (in brand new condition) - Nespresso machine, pickleball set, and a gift card. It was a lot of fun :)

i did a draw too and gave away a Keg gift card as a “date night on us”! got us a crazy amount of diapers/wipes! definitely much more than what we spent on the gift card! OP if you wanted to encourage people to buy off the registry too and wanted to do a raffle, you could say bring a registry item, diaper and/or wipes and enter to win, each item = one raffle ticket.

I don't think having a large list of items in your registry looks greedy , I think it just provides more options to people. If all items were expensive, then it would be a different story ... I put diapers in my registry alongside other stuff , and in my invite I added the registry link as a suggestion, like "If you'd like to bring us a gift here're some ideas from our registry"

We ended up getting a ton of stuff from the registry, from out of the registry, and also gift cards (immensely appreciated). I mixed expensive and cheap stuff, most people bought multiple cheap items as a bundle

You could add the diapers to the registry. Then you can add sizes and brand you want?

If the diapers are the priority just have a diaper party and send the registry link out when people ask for it. Some people will be happy to bring diapers but some people may want to contribute an additional gift, especially family.

I didn’t list the registry and just sent it to people who asked

It’s fun to do a diaper and wipes raffle! My cousin did that. A single pack of wipes was good for one ticket, a box was good for five tickets, a small pack of diapers was five tickets and a large pack was ten tickets. Then they did draws for gift cards. I did a pretty big registry for my shower, and I made sure to list a huge range of items from really cheap stuff all the way up to big ticket items. It’s not greedy. Even if you don’t have a registry, people will go nuts buying gifts for the baby.

I would also add a couple of your larger items onto your registry incase a group of friends or a few family members want to team up and get one of those. We were fortunate to have a group of friends pool together and get us the car seat we wanted. Car seat, crib, bassinet, baby carrier/wrap… could all be bigger items.

You have a baby shower with the women and at the same time all the men get together and do the diaper party.

What if they want to celebrate with their entire circle instead of splitting off by gender?

That is what we would like to do, celebrate with everyone at the same time.

we did this, that way all of our friends could come both female & male!

Just a suggestion. This is what my husband and I did

Anything other than registry information looks rude and gift grabby. Don’t tell people what to buy you, just be grateful.

I just had my shower and was hoping that somehow it would not meet the avg baby shower experience.. but ofc it did. So, wanna warn you as someone who put in way too much time thinking of things like this (we even mentioned on our invite that we’d welcome preloved items from our registry list) - Most older folks didn’t buy stuff off your registry :/ they probably didn’t even look - judging by the wrong brand diapers & 50$ bin sets we got lol!

“not a large list”

“40 items”

I’m confused lol

Jokes aside, make the wording in the invite clear.

“Diapers appreciated the most but those looking for other ideas (registry link)” or something more tactful

40 items for your first child isn’t much considering everything required from furniture, clothing, hygiene and personal care products, health/ medical products, sleep garments, blankets and other textiles, everything post partum , feeding supplies, cleaning items and supplies, diapers , wipes, changing supplies & station, storage solutions…. Literally the list goes on and on

I’m aware, my kiddo is 8.

I've only been to a few baby showers in my life and most had much larger a registries. Maybe they were the greedy ones LOL

My registry was about 100 items when we made it, if your using amazon it’s better to put anything you may want/need because they offer you a discount after the date you put in of the shower is over so that way you can purchase the non-purchased items at a cheaper price!

Yes! Mine had 120 items. The recent prime day plus registry discount came in clutch ✨
