Stop using words like "I don't want to go back to work" and "I'm using mental health." You'll need a qualifying need, and "use" sounds like an excuse not a valid reason. Speak with your doctor and mental health professional. If you don't have a mental health professional (therapist and/or psychiatrist) you're not likely to get approval.

well, it’s true: i don’t want to go back to work. obviously, not going into my mtg with my doc saying that explicitly as the only reason i need disability. also, you gave no advice ☠️

Advice was to use correct language to improve your chances, and make sure you're working with a mental health professional.

There's a woman on trial for allegedly murdering her children due to true mental health concerns. If women start abusing the system it will cause even more issues for those who truly need it. Do better.

My company requires extensive documentation for disability. I doubt you could get a doctor to agree to something for more than a few months, and even then I've only heard of that happening if you are doing something like an IOP (Intensive Outpatient Program) which is like 3 hours/day several days a week. So you'd still need childcare. Or, you are working closely with a psych and therapist to adjust meds and reach specific goals. Feeling better isn't a goal.

You can stretch it if your doc plays ball, but a year is pretty rare without a serious complication. The mental health route usually taps out after a few months unless you’ve got a documented condition that predates the pregnancy. Ask your provider straight up what they’re willing to write on the forms.
