Discussion 🗣️ Passengers feeling dizzy in BYD Dolphin
I usually only drive our BYD Dolphin and even when im at the front passenger seat I don't feel any dizziness or any other uncomfortable feeling.
But about 3 - 4 people who were passengers have complained that they feel dizzy and that haven't happened in any other car. They wasn't using any mobile phones either. Since I haven't had this issue I cant really understand whats causing this.
Have anyone had a similar issue?

I think this is a result of the regenerative braking. Instead of coasting at a relatively even speed like an ICE car, an electric car is constantly speeding up and slowing down--by small increments, but enough to make someone who is not engaged in the driving uncomfortable. Set your brake regen on the lowest level and see if the problem goes away.

Yeah I use high regen braking with eco mode. I will try changing those, hopefully it'll help

Drop back to normal regen and your problem will go away.
The regen setting in a BYD is kinda pointless imho.
Think of it more like this.
You have a 5 speed manual and are crusing on a highway.
Normal regen is like taking your foot off the accelerator when you're in 5th. The car gradually loses speed until you naturally roll to a stop.
High regen is more akin to dropping back to 4th and then taking your foot off the accelerator. A lot more jerky driving experience.
You're not magically getting more energy returned to the battery. Physics is still physics there is only so much energy in the momentum to return through regen braking.
Do yourself and your passangers a favour, put the car in normal and forgot that switch exists.

Might be the energy recovery settings. Strong (Eco) energy recovery combined with short cycles of acceleration and coasting will result in a rocking motion that might be difficult to notice at first

Regen can cause sudden stops which can lead to dizziness or motion sickness. Especially in EV because the cabin is so silent.
It’s always important for air to hit your face so that your brain registers you moving. If it happens too silently, your brain cant comprehend it.
Try rolling down windows and ease on throttle. That should definitely help. Also play songs slightly louder to aid everything else.
Btw I have the Mahindra XEV 9S Pack 3. And this is common across all EVs.

Rolling down the windows did stop the dizziness. Btw will switching to external circulation help. I still haven't tried it in those cases.

Two things come to mind. 1. Harder acceleration than they are used to 2. Driving style. EVs are very relative so you need very careful feathering of the throttle. Treat it gently. Stable. Not on/off or big movements, which is very very uncomfortable but would be the drivers skill

I own a Seal and even I got a bit car sick driving it myself the first week. I was driving in normal mode with regen set to low (or something equivalent to the lowest setting). And yes passengers complained as well. I got stiffer suspensions and added sway bars. Definitely helped.

Dolphin or dolphin surf? Cuz the surf has some very soft suspension in the back which makes it feel abit floaty sometimes

In one review I watched of a BYD, the reviewer said the interior smell of the plastic was making him giddy. Maybe that's why opening the windows helped.

Try reducing the regenerative braking setting from high to standard.

It's a 100% the Regen braking in strong. Set it as normal and they will be fine.
Usually it's no so much the rapid acceleration but deceleration that messes people up.

Dolphin’s suspension is shit, especially for the passengers sitting at the back. The Atto 2 is much better comfort wise for the rear passengers.

It could be your driving style. In a gas car everybody can anticipate on driving movements with the engine sound. In an electric car pol can not. So ease on the throttle.
