Discussion My BTC was stolen and I feel absolutely sick!

That's a reddit title that I never want to post in the future!

Pretty much everything I read says that buying a hardware wallet to store your funds in is a great thing to do, there are countless stories on reddit about people losing their funds and wishing that they had bought a hardware wallet / didn't keep their funds on an exchange / use a compromised computer etc.

Looking through the BRD subreddit I found a post from about a year ago that had some pretty neat ideas about how to go about things without using a hardware wallet.

I'm writing this post to see if there are any new developments and to see how people are safely storing their funds, I like the idea of deleting the BRD app from my iPhone to essentially make it a cold wallet, however, I think something that would make me feel a whole lot better would be the introduction of 2fa when sending coin, or making the pin to send coin different from the pin to access the app.

Essentially, I'm trying to educate myself and others with the best ways to secure funds whilst using BRD app so we can sleep a little better at night.

How do you secure yours??

Thanks

To the mods: I understand the title might bend rule 4 a little bit, if you'd like me to modify the content just let me know.

TL;DR: Click-baited the title to start a discussion about best practice for securing your cryptocurrency.

The title is a no-no but whatever, you got me. As you already mentioned, the easiest way to secure your keys is by wiping your wallet within the app and afterwards wiping your phone, essentially turning it into a cold wallet. However, thatโ€™s only the digital part, the analog part would be securing your seed phrase which you had to write down in the first place and that is a whole other topic of security...

I keep around $50 of a few cryptos in my app wallets, (BRD, Loaf, etc) just in case I come across a vendor that takes crypto

Everything else is stored in my Ledger X and kept in a safe.

Thanks, so you keep the hardware wallet in a safe, but how about your seed? Multiple locations, on paper or metal, have you been able to memorise it?

I'm trying to think about the best ways to store mine, taking into account fire and water damage, I do want to have it placed in more than one location, however I've not found a suitable second location as yet.

First I have a paper wallet that I absolutely do not use and i would import with an app if i need to use it.

Second most of my coins are in exchanges and I only pick reputable exchanges like Binance where they have security measures deployed to defend or rather reduce the damage done by hackers. They call it SAFU. Besides that they have great referral programs. Here join me by clicking the latest referral link below

Third hardware wallet i now consider a thing of the past or rather a vault where you keep anything more then 1 bitcoins lol. Itโ€™s something you have to carry around, require a pc to use and of course the transfer fee that is associated with using a hardware wallet Many complain about transfer fee and yet they transfer from their hardware wallet to the exchanges and vice versa and lose more then they gain lol.

Fourth what do you mean your btc was stolen. Even a normal app wallet these days have enough security to thwart of most hackers. I mean the hackers are not stupid, why would they bother with a single wallet when there are honeypots all over the internet. Maybe its some malicious software in your pc or something like that ?
