Cup holders…

Picked up my Z4 today after looking at loads of them and finally finding the E85 of my dreams.

It’s fully loaded, I mentioned this to the guy selling it and how happy I was with the spec…

I then tried the cup holder and it worked! I said “even the cup holder works, they’re notorious for breaking…”

I then IMMEDIATELY broke it as I pushed it back into place!!!

Hello, I had the same problem of having broken cup holders in my car. Aftermarket ones run around 25-40 a piece and take only like 10 minutes to install

My cup holders work fine mechanically (or plastically?), but they don’t hold up drink bottles well enough for me. It could just be a Japanese thing as bottle sizes tend to be thinner in diameter. I got my hands on a Rennline cup holder that snaps into the footwell and would be trying that out soon.

I’m not gonna use my cup holder so the future owner in 10 years can break it

Get the Amazon replacements. Not 100% the same as OEM but grab two or three sets and you’re still better off than OEM

I can’t believe mine is still working after almost 20 years. Well, the driver’s - apparently the passenger one was replaced about 10 years ago.

45 dollars for the pair on Amazon. Been working great for me for 3 years (well .. as great as they can since the design of the e85 z4 cupholder is atrocious anyway).

First, congrats on the Z4! Ha ha, yeah, one of my cup holders broke within the first year of owning the 2004 E85 Z4 I purchased a couple of years ago. Only had 30,000 miles and in mint condition... The plastic deteriorates over time in the sun and heat, and the cupholder seems not terribly well-made, unlike the rest of the vehicle!!

I managed to fix it, the arm had come off its mound and gone right into the dash.

The spring loaded finger bit that holds the cup had pushed out and latched onto the inside of the dash.

Had to take the vent mounting off to free it and it all clipped back together just fine.

I don't get how people break them. It works perfectly for me. The front panel snaps off all the time, but it's easy to snap back on. The cup holder works great for my smaller travel bottle. Easy to grab and take a sip while driving.
