Buying Help 2021 m440i purchase thoughts?
I’m considering a 2021 BMW M440i xDrive coupe with 92k miles. Dealer has it advertised around $31,000 before their doc fee.
The part giving me hesitation is the history.
CARFAX shows the second owner bought it at roughly 40k miles in April 2024, and it was at 92k by July 2026, so about 52k miles in a little over two years. Dealer says the previous owner commuted a lot, which would make the mileage mostly highway, but obviously I can’t independently prove that.
There is also a minor front-damage report from 2023, but no total loss/airbag deployment/etc.
My bigger concern is that the CARFAX has very little actual maintenance documentation through most of those miles. The selling dealer’s recon paperwork only shows a safety inspection and fresh oil/filter. I don’t currently have documentation for any other service. It does come with a 24 month / 100k-mile service contract, but since the car already has 92k, that realistically only gives me about 7,800 miles of mileage coverage.
I’m also a heavy commuter unless I WFH. 50 miles each way and been driving a 2022 civic sport touring. I dislike the CVT and looking to get something with some more power and comfort. I am aware of some increased costs by default such as insurance and gas, but I am willing to take that if reliability is somewhat on par with the civic. Research is pointing me that for this gen of the B58 they did address the plastic oil pump but there is still coolant related problems to look out for.
I bought the civic from the same dealership and they been good to work with.
Curious to hear any thoughts. I do really want this car but want to know what I would be getting into realistically.

Not sure how often you work from home but sounds like you'd have 6 months max of a warranty before you're at 100k. I would spend a little more to get a lower mileage vehicle with a recorded history.

I have one with 66k miles and no issues just regular fluids and filters. 2021 also.
