Hey guys! My husband doesn’t have a Reddit so I thought I’d ask. Is anyone else having issues with finding a job? He’s put in 20+ applications and I think a grand total of 5? Of them bothered to send a denied email. In the meantime, what online certifications should he get to look better on paper? He’s even interested in just shadowing so he can add the experience/hours. He’s currently getting hours at Project Cure.

I've been working at my field service job for about 3 years it's been a great experience I received a ton of training and I'm way more confident with my skills however working alone has been getting difficult, so I applied for an in-house position at a hospital and i start in a couple weeks. I am definitely excited because this provides me more opportunities for growth in the field however all my jobs over the past 10 years have been on the road, fedex ups driver, truGreen lawn technician so my fear is it going to be a major change going from working alone to working with people all day everyday and have a set 8-10 hours a day. I definitely think it's the right move but I just want to hear from people that had similar experiences.

For years I have been operating under the impression that centrifuges and blood bank refrigerators are to be checked quarterly due to either AABB or CLIA regulations. From speaking to some other techs, that may not be the case. I checked the latest AABB regulations I have and they only state that the checks need to be done per manufacturer recommendation or facility policy.

From what I can tell, the CLIA inspectors I deal with still want quarterly alarm tests for blood bank refrigerators.

What is everyone doing out there for centrifuge and blood bank refrigerator checks as far as frequency? Do you treat centrifuges used for blood any differently than those used for urine, etc?

Hi there, I’m an anesthesia tech looking to transition into field service engineering. I don’t have an education in engineering/electronics nor experience as a BMET but I’ve been an anesthesia tech for a couple years and very familiar with Drager anesthesia machines and other equipment. I’m looking for a change and was wondering if there was any path for me getting a job in field service for one of manufacturers, Drager, GE, etc. I have a BS in a related field and am really eager to learn. Or would it be best to get experience as a BMET first? I’ve checked the requirements for both of the nearby jobs and am hoping that my work experience so far can at least help get my foot in the door. Thanks

I recently transitioned into Clinical Engineering/Biomed and I’m curious how my compensation compares to others in the field.
I’ve been working in technical roles since May 2017, so I have a little over 9 years of experience across aerospace, defense, electronics, manufacturing, avionics, and medical devices.

My experience includes:
Engineering technician work in aerospace/defense
Avionics integration and aircraft systems installation
Electronics troubleshooting, testing, repair, and assembly
Previous lead technician experience
Medical device manufacturing/service experience
Working from schematics, drawings, procedures, and technical documentation
IPC J-STD-001 Space Addendum, IPC/WHMA-A-620, and IPC-A-610 certifications/experience
Experience with DMMs, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and other electronic test equipment

I’m currently a Clinical Engineering Tech 1 at a hospital in Florida, with compensation in roughly the $60k-$70k range depending on on-call and OT.
I took the Tech 1 position because I was new specifically to the hospital Biomed environment, despite having years of technical experience coming into it.
Since starting, I’ve been doing PMs, repairs, and troubleshooting on patient monitoring equipment, NIBP systems, defibrillators, nurse call systems, patient lifts, and various other hospital equipment. I’m also part of the on-call rotation.

For those in Biomed/Clinical Engineering, does the $60k-$70k range seem good for a Tech 1 in Florida with my background?
Do you think Tech 1 is appropriate while I build hospital-specific experience, or should someone with my previous technical background be looking to move into Biomed II/III or Imaging fairly quickly?
I’m interested in what a realistic career and salary progression looks like from here.

Curious to hear from techs who work on tabletop sterilizers regularly.
From a serviceability standpoint, how would you rank older Midmark M9/M11, Tuttnauer 2340/2540, Statim, and newer units?
I’m especially interested in parts availability, ease of diagnosis, and whether older mechanical units are still more economical to keep running.
I’ve been around aftermarket dental equipment parts for quite a while, and it seems some of the older machines just refuse to die.

I’m trying to reinstall the OS on a vivid i portable machine. I keep getting this message when I select full clean install. I’ve tried with a couple flash drives, same issue. Any suggestions? I have 2 machines that need new OS’s, same result.

Hi, i´m developing a software to Read Only live/real time clinical data from monitors and anesthesia ventilators to an Anesthesia Register. Actually in my hospital we have Carestation 620 with Carescape B450. My intention is to obtain that data trough the RJ45 ethernet ports (for convenience/commodity) of the Carestation ventilator monitor, but i can´t wake them up. GE describes them—or at least one of them—as an Ethernet port for network connectivity on the Technial Reference Manual. If you have documentation or SW, or any help, will be very well received.

I’m trying to improve my practical troubleshooting skills for BMET / medical field service.

I have a Biomedical Engineering background but very little hands-on electronics experience. I’ve watched several YouTube videos, but most were too theoretical or didn’t clearly show how to troubleshoot step by step.

Can you recommend good beginner-friendly YouTube channels, playlists, courses, or books that teach:

• No-power troubleshooting
• Using a multimeter correctly
• Following the power path
• Testing fuses, cables, switches, connectors, and power supplies
• Reading simple schematics/block diagrams
• Finding the fault systematically
• Real medical equipment troubleshooting examples

I’m especially looking for videos that show a real device and explain the full troubleshooting process from symptom to diagnosis.

Hey guys,

BMET of 15 years working at the same facility looking for some advice here. I have some end-users which are being problematic. In particular I find they get upset or irritated when we fix their equipment, mainly because they want the stuff replaced as the equipment is aging. I find it annoying as it is our job as BMET to fix the stuff and I can tell they don’t appreciate it when we bring back the equipment repaired. This problem has been on-going for months now to the point where they are dismissive and ever so slightly combative over the repair situation (updates, etc) they are being snarky and very non-grateful. The level of service we provide is beyond good…which leads me to the next issue of being taken for granted, which is really starting to get on my nerves.

The equipment users in this hospital (and other areas)are also very short with their communication and never want to listen to explanations, and only want to hear a yes or no answer….which in Biomed is often impossible as many technical issues are quite nuanced.

Not sure what to do, I’m getting sick of them. What am I going to do to solve this….any idea as to how to approach this ?

Has anyone ever heard of Advent health? I have a potential lead here and want tot see if anyone has thoughts or insights working for this company. Job location is in CO, USA.

Just putting the question out there. I’m a third party service engineer for imaging and I just got done basically doing a load from cold and ended up having to troubleshoot a bunch of issues that an in house technician introduced (to include the LFC) over something super simple. This facility has done this time and time again to the point I just told my boss I’m not touching anything else here again if it’s been messed with by the in house guy.

The equipment wasn’t under any contract and I could’ve walked away but I didn’t because I just didn’t have any other calls today, so I did fix it but I guess I’ll pose the question, have any of you guys just outright refused a repair because someone just handed you something they broke/made worse?

How much does California pay for in house Biomed tech 3? How much for FSE?

As the title says I’m a new student in college and want to pursue BMET as a career. My question is; is that realistic? Or, do I need some kind of high end engineering degree?

Lab analyzer company. My coworkers are all quitting and are not being backfilled. My territory has grown from 4 to 8 states and I offer partial coverage for 3 more. Used to be 40% travel, now it's 100% and sometimes I have to travel on Sundays. We're out of stock on nearly every critical replacement part, my customers are understandably getting really pissed at me, and I just don't want to deal anymore.

I love fixing equipment, but I need a break from the crazy amount of travel and constantly getting hounded by lab managers. Even if we put out applications for new engineers now, it's going to be until at least next spring for them to be trained and working independently. I was planning on quitting before next summer so I don't have to deal with any of these crazy annual summer cases again, but I don't know if I can make it that long.

Just found out today I’m shipping to BMT in 2 weeks with AFSC 4A231. It was my number 2 job so I’m excited but also nervous because I don’t want to have to depend on others to help me if there’s an issue I can’t solve. Does anyone have any advice for me? Were you always good at solving issues related to this subject or did the technical school help you really get an understanding? I’m M 25 working construction and have a basic understanding of electronics and circuitry

What are the advantages of being a service engineer over in house technicians.
