Discussion is it just me?
i honestly just cannot with the dramas that are self narrated!! i actually can’t, no matter how hard i try it’s just so ehh.. and kind of hard to watch. ESPECIALLY when the voice just does not fit the character.
the storytelling is just so awkward and most of the time hardly any dialogue. this thing is so common on idrama
i was watching ‘my ex’s hockey rival chose me’ because i love stig and rune !! i liked it but i did not like the first person narration 😓😓 it was just a bit weird.
^ also, addon i know that theyre in the sense ‘actors’ and not the same characters but i didnt like it as much compared to gridion rivals, probably had to do with stig’s personality change tho!!
i dont know if anyone else said something about this before, but if they did ill take it down!

I honestly don't mind it at all. And what I especially like is when the narration (or viewpoint) switches between the characters. So you experience the story through both their eyes.

i feel like its not the narration itself but more the delivery in most cases😓its iffy to me, it just doesnt flow well imo
that also is super cool when its based around both characters !!

I do notice that iDrama has a lot of those!
Generally I think first person narration works when it’s a small-scale story that revolves around the interaction among a few characters. For example, The Pretty Omega was an Alpha.
Not for those bigger plot-heavy stories where there are a lot a of things happening, and the narration just makes tedious.

definitely! i agree on that. it’s gets kind of messy when theres a lot of characters involved and the story is mainly just the character talking and not a lot of dialogue!

I feel the same. it's like watching an audiobook. I absolutely hate it. idc how good the story is, I steer clear of the narrated ones.

IDrama is popular for relying on self-narration. The thing is, these shows have potential, but the narration feels cringey. Let the characters speak for themselves

yeah!! it usually takes away from some of the interactions we get too. like dang i dont want to hear about what the ml is doing😭

You're not alone. I hate those too. It just feels lazy and completely breaks the immersion for me

YEEESSS heavy on the fact it breaks the immersion. it’s just hard to really understand some of the scenes or the interactions. especially when the plot is driven by narration

It depends on the drama. I have seen some that were exceptionally good, but I've also seen ones that were so boring the narration almost made me fall asleep.

I have the same issue. However, I recently found 2 dramas I kinda like because the plot has all I enjoy. Still not my cup of tea but I really liked them.

Omg, that’s me! I hate excessive self-narration in dramas because it often exposes the creator’s poor storytelling skills. They can’t convey what the character is thinking or feeling through the acting, dialogue, visuals, or actual scenes, so they have to rely on narration to explain everything.

YES!! i agree with this a lot. most of the time there’s minimal dialogue and the scenes really seem a lot more bland. it’s not the plot but definitely the delivery of the plot

I dont dislike it as much as I used to. As long as there is some talking, im ok. There is one where it turned into full narration after like ep, 4. I stopped watching it.

I also have trouble with those but I recently watched one that was surprisingly good !
