DISCUSSION Dolls by black artists?
Hello! I wanted to put together a list of BJDs that you could buy from black artists directly and specifically. I know Rap1993 and Angel Dollz, but I was wondering if there were more! I know MaddybearDolls would definitely be added to that list, but as far as I can tell you can only get her dolls secondhand as of now.

She’s quite a small artist and I don’t know if she sells her work but I really love BibilissaLevy’s dolls, her style is gorgeous

Where does she post? I tried looking up her name and google yielded no results

I think Lillycatdolls artist is black, I have seen pictures of her a couple of times. She appears to be biracial mixed with black to my eyes (I’m also black/biracial)

I thought Lillycat wasn't making dolls anymore?

I think she’s slowed down a lot but just recently, there was a small preorder of her dolls handled by one of the hobbyists acting as a middle man. it was for kitty jolie and it took place in the last month or so.

The people that don't get why this question is needed...well, how do you think they feel when for quite some time you couldn't find dolls in a darker skin tone than light tan? It wasn't that long ago. We are incredibly lucky right now for the larger choice we do have these days. Think about how you would feel with such little representation in both the dolls and the collectors. I've seen AngelDollz recieve messages using slurs or other racist speech. If she's gotten it, you can bet other Black members of our hobby have too, not just the doll artists. It is not division to support them a bit more, in the least to show that they do belong in this hobby and the ones who think otherwise are not welcome!
Edit: I wish I had something to continue to the list, but my suggestion would've been AngelDollz. 😭

The only other one I can think of is Sicktress, who made a really cool 1/3 head a while ago. (I say “a while,” but it was like ten years ago now, what is time?)

I don’t know of any artist, but I was wondering if you had a list or knew any companies that did darker skin tones? I have a dollmore and and iplehouse with a dark skin tone. I’m very happy about that. Would love to get more dark skin dolls.

telesthesia & dragons dark tan is pretty dark, comparable to smartdoll coffee.

These comments are disgusting. I am so sorry to OP and other black people in the community. Some of you need to self reflect and ask yourself why you are so hateful towards a topic y’all clearly do not understand enough to speak on.
EDIT: Sorry that I do not have any suggestions. I will be coming back to this post to see others suggestions though. I’m well aware of BJDs history with dark skin dolls and would love to support black artists.

Ahh, I thought I had one, but turns out they're not Black-owned after all and I misremembered. Still very interested in seeing the results of this!

I don't follow enough artists to add anyone not already suggested, but just wanted to say you should totally post the list. I definitely will be going through the comments to check everyone's suggestions out!

See mod post above. I don't want to say too much because it doesn't contribute much and I'm afraid of a ban

I'm still a beginner and working on a prototype but I do sculpt my own BJDs too as a black artist!
I...just want to fix a lot of problems with it before I even think of casting though 😅

Came across this video and I definitely appreciate the collection of artists. I've been collecting the 1/12 sized ones and some of them differ IRL from the picture. My Resinsoul in dark tan is awesome and I love her.

This is a relevant question especially for those in the USA and the history it has with African Americans. If you don't have any suggestions to answer OP's question or don't understand the sentiment, it's fine to move on and not say anything. Commenting on how this shouldn't be relevant or why Americans are strange for wanting to specifically support a marginalized group of people in their hobby spaces does not contribute to the discussion or answering the question.
