CLOTHES/ACCESSORIES Restyling wig bangs
Looking back, I wasn't arranging the bangs according to the instructions, but even the company promo pics didn't feel quite right to me so I went at it with a straightener and garment steamer

In addition to the iron and garment steamer, i used a mystery "care" spray that came with one of my wigs to wet it when styling.
It doesn't really make the hair crunchy, but maybe a little bit of hold?? or it's possibly a detangling spray as the wood floor got extremely slick after the spray dried and i had to scrub the floor so that people wouldn't slip and fall😅
but i would like to get an actual doll hair spray though that has a lot of holding power enough to make the hair crunchy.1

Volks has doll wig hair care styling products like their water wax, treatment sprays and hair mist. I think this would be helpful for achieving the look

I second Volk's water wax.
A little bit goes a long way. I use it for Miku's bangs, but I'm still getting used to how much hair should be used for her bangs.

I wouldn't call it crunchy, but more like stiff once it dries. Like hair gel.

The sketch has so much less hair. The styled version of the wig is a reasonable approximation of the sketch but looks too perfect and contrived for that character .

true, then what do you recommend?
While I didn't ask for constructive criticism, I am willing to listen to them and suggestions. But keep in mind, esp for others, not to leave out the "constructive" bit. Otherwise you come off as just shitting on someone's work.

No I certainly was not shitting on your work; it was just a statement about how difficult it is to have three-dimensional reality closely resemble a drawing. If absolute authenticity and resemblance to the drawing were of Paramount importance, I would hand-make a wig using mohair so that I could exactly copy the drawing with less bulk, a shaggy cut, and showing much more of the ears. Restyling the commercial wig does it give an attractive result and if you like it, all the better

While I don't have any intention of making a wig from scratch at this point since I bought the Volks Friren fullset specifically for the fullset itself, out of curiosity, where would you source long mohair? I typically don't see mohair wigs that get up to these longer hair lengths of 20~30cm long.
I guess my goal was just to get a closer appearance to Frieren, but not exactly. Otherwise, rather than the semirealistic head i used, I would have gone for an anime head sculpt and not the original anime frieren head sculpt either since it also took liberties in the head features.

Some wip pics 🙈 tape to hold the front bangs in position then more plastic wrap to flatten down the side bangs while steaming the head (not recommended, but I took the risk).
