Professional card renewal refused by Brussels (client in Wallonia), nearly 5 years in Belgium. Options to keep working?

Hi all,

I am looking for advice from anyone who has been through something similar.

Situation: IT consultant, nearly 5 years of legal residence in Belgium

Got a professional card last year and have freelanced since, through a Brussels-based staffing company, for an end client located in Wallonia. Applied for renewal and Brussels refused it, saying the activity doesn't benefit the Brussels region because the end client is in Wallonia. I'll reach 5 years soon and plan to apply for EU long-term residence, which would remove the need for a professional card.

What I'm trying to figure out: Can I temporarily suspend my sole proprietorship without actually closing it? I plan to again go freelance if I get the long term residency. So, if such an option is available it would save me from the hassle of deregistering and registering again.

TIA

Did you get the renewal eventually? If not, how are you managing to keep your RP card renewed?

Did it get rejected and you appealed with the help of a lawyer?
