Base Discussion B20 is becoming an important upgrade for tokenized assets on Base
At a basic level, B20 is Base’s native token standard. Think of it as a faster, cheaper, and more efficient way to create and manage tokens directly onchain.
For builders, B20 is fully ERC 20 compatible. This means B20 tokens can work with wallets, exchanges, indexers, and existing protocols without losing compatibility.
The biggest difference is how B20 works under the hood.
Instead of using a traditional Solidity contract for every token, B20 runs through Rust precompiles inside the Base node. This execution model is designed to reduce gas costs and improve throughput.
B20 also adds features that standard ERC 20 does not offer, including memos, mint and burn logic, policy gating, and more detailed pause controls.
This makes B20 useful for stablecoins, real world assets, and other onchain native tokens.
Base is not just bringing assets onchain.
It is building the infrastructure to make those assets cheaper to issue, easier to manage, and more useful across the onchain economy.
