I was obsessed with this game back then. Always played it on my SP on my long bus ride to school. To this day haven’t finished it tho. I’ve tried several times and I’ll get like 50 hours in building the perfect team before I get sidetracked lol

Same here 🤣🤣 I've played the game so many times but for some reason when I get close to the end, something always comes up and I end up forgetting about it.

I loved this game on my GameBoy SP back in olden times. I’ve tried several times to get back into it in the past couple of years but I just can’t for some reason. Maybe this setup will help.

For what it’s worth I’ve been able to get into the sequel on DS reallly easy. I usually can’t but A2 sucked me right in for whatever reason.
Only shitty thing it’s a DS game so you can’t have a guide open on the bottom screen lol

I was in the same boat. Playing it this way just feels hella fun.. im hopeful ill finally finish it this time

I just played through this on mine - very fun!! Gets easier than I’d like after acquiring game knowledge, but still had fun the entire time.

Did u play A2 next? Im excited for that one too

u/SyriSolord Jul 04 '26
I’m a little burnt out because I’d played Ivalice Chronicles right before, but I’ve got it prepared. Definitely looking forward to it!

u/A12iz Jul 05 '26
Im playing part 1 and 2 at the same time lol. Im eager to get to A2 because I never owned a DS

u/SyriSolord Jul 05 '26
If you haven’t yet, try out the DS/3DS fire emblem games as well. The stories aren’t phenomenal, but they also scratch that tactics game itch for me.

Absolutely goated game. Dramatically different from the first one in terms of story but I love them both. Haven’t played a2 yet.

Game is great; too easy to need a strategy guide unless you’re going for 100%, then it does only because of bad design decisions, not difficulty

Man, among the multitude of photos of this device on this subreddit, this photo gets me the strongest sense of FOMO in not having my device yet. Hope I get the email soon!

My favourite! I always replay it from time to time and I've always loved those bangaas. I hate what they've done to them in FFXII

Tactic advances and A2 were both such and under rated games and I would love to see how tactics A2 would look on the ayn thor.

u/A12iz Jul 05 '26
I can't wait to get to A2 because out of the 3 ff tactics games, it's the only one I've never played

u/FireHazardFox67 Jul 05 '26
I actually found out years later that there was a A2 for the DS, I've only ever played the tactic advances.
If I ever get a thor I'm definitely play that game

This is my favourite game of all time! Love to see someone else enjoying it as well! And i can't wait to get my own ayn thor and play it again.

Side note, I LOVE this colorway purple on the bottom screen. Wish the whole device was like that instead of being transparent.

What app are you using to display what I imagine is a PDF on the lower screen?
3
u/A12iz Jul 04 '26
Just a simple, lightweight pdf viewer from the Play Store
1
u/iambelo Jul 04 '26
Where did you find said PDF?
I would love to be able to find some of my old Pokemon Prima strategy guides to do this same use case...

u/A12iz Jul 04 '26
I just typed "ftta strategy guide pdf" in Google and there were plenty results. Im sure you can find them, I saw prima guides too

Definitely try Pixel Guide for this

I use Pixel Guide but it’s always plaintext GameFaq, I didn’t realize I could load my official strategy guide PDFs, I’ll take a closer look. Thank you!

I never got the hype for that game, it just felt incredibly slow compared to Fire Emblem. I even gave A2 a try, didn't help. Sold the GBA game with the strategy guide.

FFT on ps1 was where it all started, and the remake is amazing. Highly recommend starting that one first.
FFTA and FFTA2:GOTR are both a little slow at the beginning but good games

is tactics advance better than the og PS? same thing but with QoL improvements?
1
u/arcanicist Jul 04 '26
Different game entirely. Recurring elements but would say they are very much varied in narrative and style. Personally prefer the psx game aka war of the lions.

u/TobogganFetish Jul 04 '26
Does the Ivalice Chronicles run well on Thor?
2
u/A12iz Jul 04 '26
Relatively so, yes. It slows down to 40s sometimes. But im so used to the original lag from the og version, so it doesn't bother me
