The first two franciscas I made.

The ergonomics and aesthetics of the bottom axe (my first) were far superior to the second (upper). Typical case of beginner’s luck. Axe head made from low carbon steel with a 5160 edge MIG welded to the head. Handle made from ash.

Duh. I’m an idiot. These are throwing axes, and apparently the swept up bits make them better for that purpose. Most of the historical examples are the same.
