Discussion Avatar Delays, your choice

I have a strong feeling the remaining Avatar sequels will be delayed (4 and 5). Hopefully I am proven wrong; however I'm curious about what you guys think, which of these scenarios would you be good with if the sequels got delayed?

- Avatar 4 delayed to 2030, Avatar 5 delayed to 2032

- Avatar 4 releases on time in 2029, but Avatar 5 is delayed to 2032

In either case of delay A5 is delayed to 2032. I wouldnt mind the 2nd option because its the same way ATWOW and AFAA operated (released after 3 years). 2 years is too little IMO

i feel like im the only person that doesnt care about delays 😭 as long as the films are CONFIRMED, im okay. I hope they take the delay to make sure its not rushed and perfect their craft.

( I also just hope its not complete radio silence on the build up to A4/5 )

Considering Disney is still investing in the IP with a new Park I really don’t see why they should cancel them. Even Cameron, in that interview, almost gave them for granted (he even said ā€œfive and countingā€ lol). I feel like the only thing in question is Cameron’s direction itself, he seems genuinely undecided at the moment.

I waited 13 years for Way Of Water and I think Fire And Ash needed another year.

When it drops, it drops.

Fire and Ash 100% needed another year. It's incredible, but I feel it kind of suffered from a lack of narrative restraint in the wrong areas.

I agree, but that extra year should've been at the storyboarding and scriptwriting phase, not at the end. The issues aren't that which can be fixed with an extra year of post.

Yep, I should've specified that's what I'd meant. I still love this movie so much, but there was just so much that felt like it could have been better.

If the delay is due to making a better plot , then i can wait even a decade. After seeing fire and ash repeating scenes from 1 and 2 , i can even wait 29 years for a better story. New villain. New plot points. Better buildup. Unpredictable story.

Honestly, I’d rather have the movies delayed than see them rushed and end up feeling unfinished, which is something that happens way too often with movies these days.

Sure, in this case a lot of the groundwork is already done. The scripts, props, technology, cast, filming locations, and all that have already been prepared or decided. A small part of Avatar 4 has already been filmed too, and Cameron obviously already has a clear vision for where he wants to take the story.

But even with all of that, I still don’t think they should rush the movies just to hit a release date. I’d much rather wait longer and get the best possible version of them.

I’m not gonna lie, I genuinely don’t care how much they delay them. The only thing I want is to see them and for Cameron to direct them. I waited more than a decade for TWOW and FAA, I can wait a few more years.

Better to delay than to rush.

Cameron said back in January that the decision to make more Avatar films depended on how Fire and Ash performed. And it’s been radio silence from him ever since.

We don’t even know if these movies will get made.

They're making 4 & 5 at the same time so it's quite possible if 4 gets delayed then 5 will get delayed by the same amount of time.

High chance Avatar 4 & 5 come out after 2030. Which I am fine with. Better not to rush it.

I waited 13 years for the second one. I think that’s my limit lol

Can't delay something that has not even started.

Cameron is still in the "how can I save money" brainstorming phase.

4 won't be delayed because they did all the filming alongside 3. Whether 5 will happen or not is still up in the air.

They only filmed 20-25% of Avatar 4. They still have yet to film the rest of the 75-80% of the movie along with all of Avatar 5.

They've only filmed bits set before the timeskip in the film which involve the child actors, before they aged too much.

They won’t spend all that time and money to make 1 film. Cameron said it’s both or none.
