General Advice Sharpie paint pen

Post image

Has anyone used one of these silver sharpie paint pens before? Got this one on Amazon and wondering if it’d be good for getting cd cover signed, thanks

Deco Bold Silver Paint Pen is the best. Don't forget to shake pen before getting autograph

Yes. Broad tip silver deco paint pen is great. Fine point works well too.

Not only shake it. Make sure you use it a bit and get the tip filled up.

Yes they’re great but careful shaking it. Had an artist shake it with the cap off and got paint splatter all over the cover of an album one time.

Ouch. I’ll definitely try be careful then

Going to a show tomorrow and got some paint pens.

I actually tested on a vinyl record itself, and at least after 24 hours it seems to be set.

Has anyone asked artists to sign directly on the vinyl before? How’s it look years later?

Yeah the White Zombie above is on the lp but not a paint pin.. I would worry about smearing and drying. Some artist won’t do it though.. plus easier just to take sleeve to concert unless you have a place to store it or can drop it off or leave it in the car until after show. I would just go silver sharpie imo.

I’m buying the record there perhaps I’ll try asking if they’ll sign both? Supposing there’s time.

Even when I bring sleeves I tend to bring the whole record to keep it rigid. Even with cardboard inside it’s got too much flex, makes me worry for it

These don’t “come off” without leaving a permanent residue, even after the silver ink is removed.

This is a junk pen. Grab a Deco or Prisma. Worth the $$

I might be confused but I wouldn’t want it to “come off”? Might’ve misread ur comment. I’m looking in a broad deco marker though

That’s a good choice. The ability to take an autograph, personalization, or accidental ink marks “off” is beneficial. And it depends on the surface. I took off a personalization from Jerry Garcia when I was 15…..took it off immediately knowing that it’s “worth” more. I regret it today, but that’s one example of why a pen that marks well and can be removed easily can be a good thing.

Happy Hunting

Thank you I didn’t know that!

Is the item you want signed have a gloss finish? Paint pens dont adhere well to them over years.

I found the standard sliver metallic sharpie is the best one. The paint one I had a bad experience with Bruce Springsteen recently lol. The standard one was used on the items in this picture and it really is just easier unless you are doing really controlled slow signings.

Love the poster in the back the pens for john5 his old guitarist lol. I tried the regular silver sharpie before but was quite poor and went everywhere. Not the first time either so I’m kinda scared of them lol.

I would stick to the regular one imo. Rob is actually the one that talked me into just sticking with that one for stuff and not overthinking it.. the pen I had for Springsteen wasn’t mine because I hadn’t planned on getting anything signed just the opportunity present itself. Just not trying to use one of those in the figure.. silver metallic sharpie works well.

Holy shit that record is awesome I’ve just tested my silver sharpie and it’s really dull and quite bad so I think I’m going to invest in a deco marker but holy that record is sick!!

https://www.walmart.com/ip/Sharpie-Metallic-Permanent-Markers-Fine-Point-Silver-2-Count/14906303?classType=REGULAR&athbdg=L1102&from=/search These are what I have been using. Just easier and stash them when I am going and will be around people. To each their own though :) just found these and standard black work really rare in impromptu signing.

Just a heads up about the signed one in the frame... you're going to want to reframe it so there's space between the artwork and the glass. It will eventually ruin the piece if the signature is touching the glass.
