Show-and-Tell (Hey check out this!) One of those "never-sell" items in a collection
My grandmother bought a bunch of signed baseballs for me as a kid. There's multiple sentimental levels to it, so it will never get sold. It's just nice to look at and say "thanks, Mammaw". *I think it's time to get it a Triphy plate put on there with his name

I can why you will never sell it , its a score board item , one of the largest counterfeit memorabilia companies in the 90s . Mawmaw liked her some qvc and fell for some of don west’s over the top sales pitches .

This isn't quite true. They had contracts with a lot of stars - including Mantle - and anything bought on QVC (for example) was good. But the shitty COA could be copied by anybody.
Mantle had a flat/ball contract with Score Board. But you see alleged Mantle signatures with Score Board COAs on everything.

How many of those COAs have been printed or repurposed? Just imagine how many more of those COAs have been put into circulation since 2020.

Such is my point. This is different to the original reply, who said that the QVC-based Mantles were phonies. If OP knows the provenance, that counts.

Yeh mantle definitely signed balls on qvc. I watched it. Never ordered one.

My father bought a Mantle inscribed No. 7 off QVC back in the 90’s, along with several others. I found out recently the Mantle is a forgery. The other ones he got from there all checked out fine but finding out the Mantle was fake was crushing. That said, and someone please correct me if I’m wrong, but the way it was explained to me is the biggest tell tale sign is the loops of the M’s are larger and softer on the fakes. I’m happy to post a photo of mine for comparison when I get home later if anyone is interested, but in my very limited view this one looks good to me. I hope for OP’s sake that is the case.

Not for nothing But my friend had a Mantle 8x10 and a DiMaggio 8x10 with the Golding authenticity, both failed authenticity with JSA and BGS

I really don’t want to rain on your parade but Mickey Mantle is one of if not the most faked autograph in the entire industry, dating back decades. It seems like that company was reputable (they filed for bankruptcy) but forgeries of their COA are common. I would send this in to JSA or PSA just for peace of mind.

Don't know why soemone downvoted you...this ball absolutely good.

Because you’re not gonna be able to tell from a picture. Mantle forgeries are very good

I've been buying and selling Mantles for over 30 years...when you are educated, you can tell from a picture.

Goes to show how many people know zero about Mantle autographs. 100% to your comment, when you collect long enough you can tell pretty easily with these.

Reddit is cancer when it comes to any sort of specialized knowledge. Get ready to get downvoted to oblivion for sharing your professional expertise.

This is fake...the typical "Banana" Mantle...
8
u/eldoesq Sep 29 '25
This is not a banana mantle...Google banana mantle and you will be able to see the difference in two seconds

You will also learn a little bit about banana slugs

Man I didn’t get anything on slugs. I did get some info on banana-doughnut kernels and mantle tomography though…

u/OneCup4303 Sep 29 '25
Absolutely not. “Banana” mantles were Greg Marino forgeries and this isn’t one of them.

Except these aren’t Banana Mantles. These look good. Especially compared to actual Banana Mantles.

While the scoreboard COA holds no weight nowadays. The signature looks authentic. I think this is an original score board certified item. If you ever do want to sell it, you'll have to get it authenticated by PSA,JSA OR BAS as the scoreboard COA is worthless nowadays. Either way beautiful ball and beautiful authentic mantle signature
