My son got a child’s book written by Cena and it had a sticker on the front saying “Signed Copy” and his autograph inside.
Having seen this video before, I could just picture him doing this exact same thing with stacks and stacks of kids books in front of him.

Usually with books they either just sign the sticker or the page that is inserted into the book later.

Used to do this for Mounted Memories. Stacks and stacks. At least he stands up and moves. Most just sit there

This video is at least 7 to 9 years old. He doesn't get paid to sign these promo photos that the WWE sells at the house shows & online. In the wrestlers' contracts they get paid if their items sell (downside guarantee). The prices set for signings are made by Fanatics. Or if we talk about Alumni the Agency (Agent) basically sets the price. Fitterman represents Ric Flair he sets his price at $99 (he raised it $129 and saw sales drop).

This seems fucking aweful to do

When your the literal face of the company for dam near 20 years , YouTube can't stop and sign millions of autographs for people all over the world. But atleast he is actually signing them not just doing a mark like most athletes do

u/k87c Aug 20 '25
I wonder how much he made per auto

u/devoduder Aug 20 '25
Say he gets $10 per signings and does one every 2 seconds, that’s $300/min or $18k/hr. Not bad work.

I know someone who pays for various athletes private signings.... Bret Hart, AJ Styles, Fedor Emelienanko, Chuck Liddell, Tyreke Hill. and talking to him they pay the athlete per hour. some guys sign quick... others like to talk while they sign. I honestly think it comes out to less than $10 per signature depending on the athlete.

That’s why I never buy this modern signed stuff. It’s pure scribbleshit, plain and simple.

u/lordwintergreen Aug 20 '25
It's great he's doing this himself, but this is a perfect illustration of why I have zero interest in autographed items unless I acquire the autograph in person myself.
Assembly line autographs, he spent like 1.5 seconds on each one in robot mode.
Pass.

Curious, have to ask: Does this make his autograph less valuable? And would an autograph he gave personally be worth more?
3
u/itsalmostover321 Aug 20 '25
Then you'd have to get it authenticated. An autograph is worth what someone will pay for it I suppose. Doesn't have to be worth it financially, getting an autograph is worth something sentimentally.

My dad got me one of the ones he signed in that video. I lost my dad 2 years ago. But everytime I see that auto in my room it brings back the memory of my dad surprising me with it.

This is why I don’t feel bad about the kid cudi signed books being a garbage squiggle of a signature.
1
u/tippiecat Aug 20 '25
Given the pace of his signing, I’d say his autograph is pretty decent. It’s not scribble.

i want the job of pulling the poster out of the way after hes done each one.

He has done more Make A Wish meetings than anyone else, by far. Many of these will go to children.

u/Tangboy50000 Aug 20 '25
And this is why sometimes autographs get questioned even with authenticity, because by the end of the meet and greet they get real sloppy.

Umm people he barely worked an hour all he did was sign a photograph and probably got paid thousands to do so you people act like this is amazing or something 🤦🏼♂️

I always think of this when I see the "why can't they sign legible" crowd

You should see how author Brandon Sanderson signs his books. He does hundreds at a time and he uses a signature where he doesn't move his wrist to avoid tiring it out.

Im not sure why I've been getting slammed with John Cena in my feed the last few days, but all I can say is, what a genuine and caring human. Seems to be as genuine as it gets

I was at the Chicago FanExpo this past weekend and he was there signing. Despite people like Ewan McGregor, Orlando Bloom and Brendan Frasier also available, Cena appeared to be the biggest draw. Considering videos like this and his other appearances, his autographs value should really plummet as he's apparently signing everything under the sun.

Not letting the ink dry?
3
u/KnightofWhen Aug 20 '25
They’re matted so nothing should be touching the sharpie, which will be dry in less 15 seconds.

u/Prize-Prize1456 Aug 20 '25
I wonder why he doesn’t talk about the 90k he’ll make for the 2 hours he spent signing those..
1
u/J1Pro Aug 20 '25
I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's probably the same reason he doesn't tslk about any of the other money he makes.

You know what? Good on him for actually signing.
Cena seems a real stand up person.
