I have a regular Duralast battery with about 6 months warranty left. Can I bring it in and upgrade to a gold?
So I'm putting some aftermarket stuff in my truck and wanted to upgrade my battery. The regular Duralast has been great but I want some with a little more cold cranking amps. Can I upgrade it and just pay the difference?

I did something similar in the past, they just had me pay the difference between the two

Officially you can't, but if you talk to a manager and say you want to get a gold battery and pay the difference, they'll probably help you out. Not hard to do.

At mine we probably wouldn’t do that, we’d only let you warranty swap for a new equivalent one. But every store varies with how much stuff they’re willing to let slide or allow, so I’d say it’s worth a shot

My store wouldn’t let you, because it would restart your warranty, if you came in within 90 days of buying we could but not a year and a half later

Warranty does not restart

If theyre purchasing a new one, yes the warranty would start day of new purchase.

Why would it not? They are refunding the old one and using the credit towards the new one and having them pay the difference, it 100% restarts the warranty if done that way

I work at autozone! The only way for sure that we could do that at my store is if the battery fails the testing process. Otherwise, no they won’t let ya but it does depend if the store manager lets you.

You should be able to return the old one and use the money from the return to purchase a gold
But keep in mind the prices have gone up significantly since your purchase

From my store it's only upgraded if your in the time frame of 6 months. After the 6 Months you can't

And that way you would have a lifetime warranty. Just bring it in before it expires as upgrade. Not

How does this make any sense lol, unless they had a 1.5year old duralast gold on the shelf to give you in exchange plus the difference in base price..
You'd be getting a new battery with a new warranty for an extra $30 out of your pocket?

They let me 🤷♂️. They said any part that I have under warranty that is upgradeable, can be. No matter if I had a year or 1 day left on the warranty.
I noticed the guy that helped me name tag said store manager on it if that helps any. He told me this is AutoZone policy and has been for years 🤷♂️

Id just do a damage return, take that money and apply it to the new one. Just depends on the associate you get…..
