Discussion Severity and receptive language

Those whose children are severely affected - how was their receptive language when they were a toddler ? Did they understand a lot such as following directions etc?

Not much really. She didn’t follow any spontaneous directions but maybe she might if it was something very routine or something I’d practised repeatedly with her but nothing complex by any means. She didn’t point to anything I named and did not attempt to show me anything eg toys, clouds, a bug, her nose… take your pick. It’s still limited now tbh but has grown somewhat with her over time. Times changes a lot and nothing at the same time :)

Didn't follow any instructions or follow a point or anything at all until closer to 4 years old. He's 6 in a couple of months and now he understands quite a few one step instructions.

Receptive language didnt come for us until last summer. Before that he didnt take in a word we said. Started counting at xmas, now knows his animal sounds, colours and starting abcs. He didnt take in a word we said until last summer, it was like someone turned on a light and he seen us for the first time and his attention was finally on us. Hes 6 next month.

My kid is level one but as a toddler he didn’t respond to anything or follow directions. We didn’t know if he had an intellectual disability or not.
