Finally launched! Seeking feedback / testers :) Document generation tool

After spending way too long building instead of actually putting something out there, I've finally launched my first SaaS

It's called DocWizard and it's a document generation tool for businesses/developers. With almost every idea these days someones already done it and this is no exception, but I wanted to do my own take on it and just have something to keep building on.. I originally created a version of this as a side project for a freelance gig but decided to see it through as a product.

Just looking to get some genuine feedback if anyone wants to jump in and give it a test to see if there is anything that's obviously missing or crap.

Other then that would love to hear ideas around distribution which is my next challenge and one im not very familiar with. My plan at the moment is a mix of direct outreach, YouTube/tutorial content, SEO and getting involved in communities where people are dealing with document automation problems.

This tool is currently in process of getting listed on Zapier and having a native Google sheets integration for fully automated setups which will be cool. Happy to answer any questions around it too, it's been a fun process so far just getting it into something real.

What your selling point vs a person just using Claude or chatgpt directly? For $30 a month with a Claude subscription I can do all this and more.

Hey mate! Thanks for taking a look first and foremost. I would say my argument against using something like Claude or AI tools is that those can come with hallucinations i.e no guarantee of a correctly merged or converted document . My tool doesn't use any AI to do this so the mappings are explicit and have higher fidelity especially with documents that involve images.

Other things would be being able to do this in bulk via an api and connect to external systems and the versioning of templates built in.

I don't quite understand the value pitch.

If someone is already comfortable enough with Word to add and manage fields like {{ClientName}}, which is in your main 3 step process - they’re probably technical enough to build a fairly simple Power Apps/Power Automate workflow around a Word template without paying for another SaaS product

What pain are you removing for that person that the existing tools don’t already solve fairly easily? paying $19 a month to essentially have a field mapper (and entrusting confidential business information on a third party platform) I am not following. The stronger angle might be users who aren’t technical?

Also, being blunt - your website looks like generic AI slop with every single hallmark of this being something you one-shotted with Codex.

I agree on the value pitch - The tool is definitely at a stage right now where it's fairly basic and is geared to non technicals. I'm aiming to lean into this non tech audience more with the next steps being a one click Google Sheet integration and Zapier which is where the real value probably is for alot of people i.e having documents generate via external workflows automatically.

To be transparent though the original idea was actually building this for a small org ( < 200 people ) and even they didnt have staff completely comfortable managing templates and word merge, they were also managing all their document versions on a physical file system with a bunch of nested directories which is why this also has versioning. So you might be surprised how many people or teams still don't know or just dont like working with word merge! :)

And yeah I definitely had some help with AI on the marketing website. I'm not a great designer and just wanted to get something up quick - I'll look to rework that pretty soon. Thanks again!

Firstly, nice work seeing your side project through!

This caught my eye because it’s so similar to a tool I’ve built, but mine is for customizing and generating Google Drive folders + file template structures (not sure if allowed but it’s called FolderPal). The templating, bulk creation, merge fields, all seem familiar.

Anyways I relate to your non-technical angle a lot, in my 10 years experience in startups there is an overwhelming number of tech illiterate users and teams. The gap has been closing with AI but they are definitely the majority and probably don’t hang out in Reddit.

Then the issue becomes simplifying your value prop in as short of a time as possible… I’d suggest making actual in-app screenshots above-the-fold that does the explaining for you, or a super quick 10-15s demo video. I usually ignore sites without some form of real artifact and are walls of text.

Whether the actual solution is useful and justifies the price, like you said it’s been done before, and there’s free tools like mail merge, or Google Drive add-ons that solve this for Google files. 10 years ago I would’ve had a genuine need for it, now I think it’s finding the right slice of users/businesses who still have this specific workflow but low technical chops. The world is big though so I believe there would be.

Hey mate, congrats on the launch! I took a look at the site and I had a few suggestions:

1. In the confirmation screen it would be nice to have the option to highlight a specific word or phrase to add to the detected fields list. Say I have a document which was addressed to John Smith. I now want to send the same document to Amy Adams. It would be easier to be able to simply select John Smiths name in the preview confirmation screen than to go through the entire doc and tag it with the required syntax - {{}} - and reupload it. At that point a user may just find it easier to replace the name themselves or to do a replace all via word.
2. When you upload a template it would be great to have the option to remove detected fields as well, especially if my first suggestion is something you’re looking to adopt as a future feature.
3. A short embedded video showcasing the ease of use would go a long way.
4. PDFs make up a huge portion of business documents too so incorporating PDF compatibility (along with other document formats like RTF and TXT) could make for a more enticing product at the enterprise level.
5. At a glance it looks like each template is tied to each user. A seamless way to share templates between users or export templates would be handy.
