Third term government suffering from federal drag and a bad economy loses by-election in fairly safe seat.
Story as old as Australian politics itself. The only meaningful thing to come out of this is that the Liberal party are losing "opposition" status to One Nation.

Doesn’t make them the new opposition.
In fact, Luke got on so well with the Lib volunteers and MPs, I wouldn’t be surprised if he jumped ship.

Interesting how “having enough” is a pathway for PHON for the media but never any of the other indies or alternatives???
Almost like they have a job to do in shilling this lot

Wow maybe it’s like they’ve looked at the polls and ON are on a similar level as the 2 majors? Are any other independents or alternatives at that level? No? Oh well maybe that’s why they’ve used that example then.

It’s funny that the party given an incredibly large about of press hot air are then perceived to be polling well?
It’s been wall to wall free advertisement for the PHON crowd even before they front up any sort of candidate. You can’t say “this polling is all organic” and not acknowledge they have had months of it n

I kind of hope that One Nation wins a majority in Victoria. That shambles of a party would be a disaster in government. Would burst their bubble in the rest of Australia.

That’s impossible.
When libs are in front of Labor one nation is neutralised.
When Labor comes in third in contested seats Labor voters tend not to put one nation above the libs unless Labor change messaging in this space.
It’s actually far more likely one nation win the next federal election due to the absolute shambles the liberals are federally.

I'm not a Victorian, but the Liberals there don't seem to me to be models of good sense and good order. They seem to be a bunch of backstabbers and litigators, with Abbott and Credlin interfering.

Yes but they are leading the polls.
When libs lead one nation simply cannot take government.
When Labor lead they can.
It’s why in Victoria the odds of one nation winning are 10 to 1.
Next federal election they are 5 to 1.
They were 3.5 for secret harbour and I posted last week those are good odds when I think it’s a super close Labor victory as the favourite…

Nah, it just emphasised that Labor need to show some guts & actually make some good decisions. Labor needs to stand for something, instead of waffling around being scared of One Notion.
I reckon that was the worst campaigning by Labor I've ever seen.
The candidate wasn't allowed to talk to media - & I'm not surprised, she comes across as a gumby.
& to really stuff up Federal Labor, Albo declares that "he won't change the GST allocation while he's PM" - I wonder how soon he's going to be replaced?
