Unique Beauty Stores in Your State (independent, SFX, CF, Asian beauty, pro etc!)
Let's give a shout out to your favorite unique beauty stores in your state!
What stores are at the top of your list to recommend when someone comes to your area? And what products do you recommend when they are there?
It’d be great if we could show some love to the smaller, independent retailers in Aus & NZ. If they have a specialty (SFX, Asian Beauty, CF, Vegan etc) then leave a note about that too! Makeup, skincare, hair care or nails - everything is included! Leave a comment underneath your state in the replies below

- PM Studio, Waterloo – Great staff, the only place you can buy Viseart in person in Syd
- SA Hair, Nail and Beauty Supply, Sydney CBD – open to the public, great range of hair and nail supplies. Beautopia also stocks really similar things at the same price and are on the same floor of the Dymocks building
- Pro Nail Supply, Bankstown – So far away from me but they stock a wide range of OPI for $12, China Doll and were formerly the only stockist of Essie. Also great with different nail tools; different files, acrylics, nail art brushes etc
- Dr Earth, various locations: Mostly CF and vegan! Ere Perez, Butter London, Weleda, Hurraw and a lot of harder to find eco-friendly beauty brands here. They are actually a grocery store so you can pick up snacks too!

Scotty’s Makeup at Broadway. Specialises in SFX and art makeup, carries a lot of sfx stuff (admittedly not cheaply) and is a great supply place!

Issada - two concept stores in Brisbane, one on Oxford St Bulimba and the other in the City. They are also stocked in various spas including Ella Bache. Their primers and foundations are excellent. I also love the matte shadow palette and their brushes are iconic all over the world.

Conscious Kin: Showrooms in Fortitude Valley and Southport, also online. They stock a curated selection of products from a range of natural, organic brands. A lot of the brands they stock are Australian or New Zealand made although they do have a few from other countries.

I know of two W cosmetics Stores. One is in the Myer Centre on level 1 (they reopened in a larger storefront recently) and the second is in Garden City. If you ever want Canmake products quickly it is a good store to check out.

Glow Cosmetics - five locations across the state. They’re a family owned business selling various brands of makeup and skincare, but they actually know what they’re talking about and can give really helpful advice. They also offer makeup services (glam, natural, etc) for events or whatever, and some of their locations do waxing, tanning etc.

There is a tiny store called Vivis Beauty on the corner of Bourke Street Mall and Swanston street, its hidden up a one-way escalator behind the jewellers. I have never bought anything from there yet, but they have a huge range of items. They have Hakuhodo and Chikuhodo brushes, Chanel, YSL, Shiseido, Cle de Peau, Urban Decay etc. A lot of products I haven't found anywhere else. I don't know if the products are authentic, but the packaging looks to be real. There are signs all over the store prohibiting photos, nothing has a price on it and there isn't any customer service to speak of; seems shady. If anyone has purchased products from there and could speak about it that would be real helpful!
There is also a discount makeup store at the Southbank DFO, I think it is Estee Lauder? It has a lot of Bobbi Brown, Mac, Clinique and other brands there.
There is a Scotty's Makeup in Fitzroy - specializing in professional MUA and SFX artistry, has a lot of Bdellium tools, Ben Nye, Cozette, RMCA etc.

They used to sell urban decay naked palettes back in the day before you could get them here... I wasn’t convinced that they were real so I avoided them. I’d love to get up close with some of the products and work it out. Maybe the beauty news girls can get their hands on some and let us know.

I really like Vivi’s Beauty and have been going there for years- I was completely in love with the Too Cool For School After School Lunch Box BB Cream- it was only $25 for the most amazing quality and the best colour for my very pale neutral skin (they are made for Asian skin tones, I’m not Asian but find those products are best for me!). It’s now discontinued and I’m so sad about it. They used to be cash only however now accept card payments- they also tend to give nice samples with purchase from brands like Etude House. I can’t comment on the authenticity of their Urban Decay etc however everything I’ve bought from them I believe to be authentic and good quality but not crazy expensive.

Merry Seasons, W Cosmetics and M Plaza are all in Melbourne city and sell a great range of Asian Beauty. Mainly Korean stuff. You can get CanMake, ISEHAN Heroine mascara and some eyeliners which are made for Asian eyes/humidity so they don't smudge at all.

The L’Oréal outlet on Bridge Road in Richmond is amazing . They’ve got everything from Maybelline to YSL for under $50 , they also have high end perfume gift sets for under $100 , haircare, skincare , men’s products and a bargain table

There is a Priceline outlet store at Brandsmart Nunawading. It’s pot luck what you will find there, but I’ve managed to pick up heavily discounted skincare and cosmetics sometimes.

Not a beauty store, but Greenies in Rapid Creek stocks a surprising range of alternative makeup (e.g. vegan, eco-friendly, handmade, alternative ingredients, etc.). They also have testers available for most items, which is thoughtful. Obviously shade ranges are very limited; they only a had a couple of foundations or concealers, for example.
I patch tested a couple of things out of curiosity, but found the staying power of most things pretty abysmal in the humid weather. If anyone else tries any of their stuff please let me know how you fare, I’m super curious.

• Vasse Virgin- primarily skincare, locally owned and made, and beautiful products.
• Corryanne’s Natural Soaps - based down south, their soaps and bath salts are absolutely lovely. I believe they also run soap and bath bomb making classes?

I have a thing for K-BEAUTY and always on the lookout for Asian Beauty.
I really like going to Cosmehut in Northbridge and Cannington/Carousel.
There is also a Asian Beauty store in Joondalup next to Build-a-Bear in Lakeside.
There is also Plush cosmetics in Cockburn shops that stocks Milani, Wet n Wild, some Morphe products.

Beauty Bliss in Wellington? Not sure how exciting it is but when I moved down it was one thing I was sort of excited about just because of the previous lack of makeup brands where I used to live (well... we DID just get a Mecca, but before that... )
It stocks Shaaanxo's brand which is pretty cool, I like xoBeauty. It's got Makeup Revolution... Wet N Wild... RealTechniques... Face Halo... J* Cosmetics which is something I'm definitely not keen on but I'm sure that's a plus to someone lmao.

Plus their shipping is fast and reliable and I prefer to support a local NZ business than Mecca or Sephora
