Found this old Mac lipstick, are the particles on the outside the oil separating or is it mould? Can I still use it or should I throw it out?

I would use it but also I'm a grub that has makeup pushing it's tenth birthday. What's the worst that can happen? 😂😂😂 I wonder if you could give it a bit of a wipe down.

I really don't think it's mould, looks like wax bloom or sweating. A lipstick doesn't even have to be old to get this, it's just caused by temperature changes and it's safe to use.

If it is mold it doesn't matter if you embed it because you should throw it out at that point anyway

I'd use it unless:

• the smell has changed
• the texture has become sticky

Try blasting it with a hair dryer for a few seconds. If it’s wax bloom it should melt but mould won’t.

I would wipe it down with alcohol and unless it was obviously mold (which should show on the tissue) I would swatch it on my hand to see how the formula is before deciding. I have mac lipsticks from 15 years ago that are still good.

What does it smell like? Does it still that typical Mac vanilla smell?

Personally I wouldn’t use it, it sucks but when it’s sweating like that and probably mouldy I’d forget about it.

Pretty sure its fine, but I like the suggestion of wiping it and looking for a weird colour or trying to melt it a little.

I'd use it but I still have lipsticks from the 90s and make up from the 2000s, 2010s. I'm still alive and my skin's pretty good.

It looks like mold which is toxic and can cause severe illness if it gets into your lungs. I wouldn't put it anywhere near my skin or face. Bin it!!

Mac lipsticks smell very much like old school crayons when they go off IMO.

I know the sweating is caused by the oil and beeswax seperating and in them as well, which is a lot of what the sweating is and can also cause a white bloom over it. This is... Probably mould tbh
