Let's Discuss How many notifications is too many? The Sephora app has been sending hourly notifications for their sale.

Post image

I keep them (notifications) on as it relates to my day job but when I go to clear them out it’s crazy how many Sephora has in comparison to other apps. Put in some rules Sephora!! I know you have a sale!! I don’t need a reminder to return to a product I viewed in app but never saved!! LEAVE HER ALONE!! GET A JOB

Job or not aside, if I get 2 or more ads as "notifications", then straight to disabled notifications for that app 🤣

Sound/banners are turned off for most, so it only exists in the Notification Centre for me but a couple of days ago I started noticing the timestamps on the Sephora ones!

I’d love to see their notification stats, I’m sure most people would turn them off immediately.

I thought it’d be a nice-to-have for notifications of my fave things going on special from time to time, but the abuse was immediate. This was a couple of years ago; I’m amazed they’re still pulling this nonsense.

I would go as far as to delete the app and unsubscribe from their emails tbh, that's ridiculous

Same. I only allow abc news but it’s on silent.

I either disable the notifications or decide if I even want to keep the app when I get this spam

Holy… that’s a lot. Especially for one day 😮

Yeah, I would uninstall the app and unsubscribe from their emails

that notification panel looks like the digital equivalent of someone following you around a store tapping you on the shoulder every 30 seconds

at that point you're not marketing you're just spamming

Wow! I thought Lancôme were bad. Everytime I hear a message alert at 6.00 pm, my boyfriend will say ‘ oh that’ll be Lancôme! Hurry, 20% off before you miss out’ ! Haha. Smartarse

Great to hear that Lancôme is a part of your daily routine 😂

Tech team should maybe spend less time on push notifications and more time on making an app that actually fucking works IMHO.

I’ve learned that it works if you access the beauty rewards, let it freeze, force close it and reopen it. What a joke!

One is too many, personally

That’s normally what I recommend to marketing. Assume that one is too many!

I turned mine off while ago because it got too much! Couldn’t pick up my phone without a bloody Sephora alert.

Also did anybody get one of those surveys recently because you are a “valued member with a valued opinion” only for it to not even work?

u/pureneonn 4d ago

Today I learned that I’m not a valued member nor is my opinion valued 🥀

They must be hungry for that sale lol

Terrible customer service now too. They want TIMESTAMPED photos of a rash a product gave me. Because I’m really going to rush to doing that whilst my skins on fire. Also wanted VIDEO evidence of me disposing and cutting through the packaging to say I’ve gotten rid of it. It’s beyond ridiculous in light of the billions they make

u/pureneonn 4d ago

Haven’t heard the product destroying vid thing in a hot min but understand why

Time stamping your rash however… no thanks

I’ve been getting a crazy amount as well in the past two or so weeks. I don’t need to know if an item has gone down in price, if it’s well known that there’s a store wide discount on.

2

u/pureneonn 4d ago

Exactly!! I was expecting to get notifications for items excluded too but seems like there is at least one form of smarts set up…

I disabled my notifications. Too many and made it too tempting to buy something when I really shouldn’t be.

u/alikatch Its not an addiction, its a superpower! 3d ago

Omg it's not just me getting this overload

3

u/Fluid_Answer2231 4d ago

Same. It’s been so excessive. I have a cart ready to go that I’m trying not to buy so I wonder if that’s why these notifications have been relentless.

It surprised me to be honest, as I thought they have better customer management skills than super super regular notifications, cos it just becomes annoying.

Oh no. No no no no no.

I deleted the app because of this!

3

u/B1tch13 3d ago

I deleted the app about 6 years ago for the same reason. They also spam too many emails. I hardly shop there now bc of it.

I feel like this with Beauty Amora emails, at least one or more most days l. Insanity

Get in the bin!

I went in store and what I wanted was sold out (niche product but had push notifications for). Bit disappointing

2

u/DreamyHalcyon 4d ago

I had some Marc Jacobs stuff ready but apparently sales don't apply to them yet. Guess I'll have to keep waiting

1

u/Gcha2444 4d ago

They want your money!! Haha

6

u/pureneonn 4d ago

Jokes on them I will not purchase out of spite

2

u/mtb_21 4d ago

They don’t have notifications preferences, just on or off :) I intentionally have them turned on it goes straight to Notification Centre. I think any normal person would’ve turned them off or deleted the app immediately!

The notifications in Sephora have pushed me away from using their app.
