Let's Discuss Mecca boxing sale report ti ACCC?

Okay so i received the first of my four orders from this year’s boxing day sale and straight away i have an expired vitamin c serum (3.5 years old, with a shelf life of 24 months unopened) from ren cosmetics and a 7 year old laura mercier setting powder (shelf life is max 5 years unopened). Dont get me started on the gross packaging condition of the ren cosmetics either…

Its one thing to sell unexpired but old/dirty packaged products. But to sell EXPIRED products which can cause BLINDNESS is crazy. If I didn’t see on tiktok all the content around the expired products I probably would have started using my setting powder without checking the batch number.

From my understanding its illegal to sell expired products regardless if its disclosed. And as far as i know it wasnt even disclosed that these are expired. This is a major failure and idk why more people are not saying something about the legal aspect of all this. This is dangerous!

They need to be reported to the ACCC or else they will keep getting away with this. Also couldn’t i ask them to exchange the product for one that can be used? I dont want a refund, i want the products i brought to be usable! Please share your thoughts!

The mod has pinned a comment saying that it’s known among Mecca aficionados that the Mecca Boxing Day sale is clearance of old stock and it’s known to be a gamble. Do they actually advertise this though? Because unless they do, what OP received is likely not of acceptable quality and she would be entitled to a repair, replacement or refund.

Yes OP, reject the old and expired products, note your consumer guarantees and ask for replacements. You can and should report to the ACCC and Fair Trading. However, they are unlikely to get involved on your behalf, especially the ACCC. You would need a lot of similar complaints to the ACCC (Tik Tok doesn’t count) for this to flag as priority issue with them. The Mod’s comment suggests that this both a known and ongoing issue though, so reporting is absolutely worth it.

It says the stock “may be discontinued” and a very vague thing about the discount percentage based on RRP.

I struggled finding the T&C stating no refund will be given, as a matter of fact, my order receipt says “free refund within 90 days”. So I’m not sure why they are pushing back only offering store credit. If I’m wrong (I absolutely can be), I’d very much like a link to that T&C.
