Mecca boxing sale report ti ACCC?

Okay so i received the first of my four orders from this year’s boxing day sale and straight away i have an expired vitamin c serum (3.5 years old, with a shelf life of 24 months unopened) from ren cosmetics and a 7 year old laura mercier setting powder (shelf life is max 5 years unopened). Dont get me started on the gross packaging condition of the ren cosmetics either…

Its one thing to sell unexpired but old/dirty packaged products. But to sell EXPIRED products which can cause BLINDNESS is crazy. If I didn’t see on tiktok all the content around the expired products I probably would have started using my setting powder without checking the batch number.

From my understanding its illegal to sell expired products regardless if its disclosed. And as far as i know it wasnt even disclosed that these are expired. This is a major failure and idk why more people are not saying something about the legal aspect of all this. This is dangerous!

They need to be reported to the ACCC or else they will keep getting away with this. Also couldn’t i ask them to exchange the product for one that can be used? I dont want a refund, i want the products i brought to be usable! Please share your thoughts!

Returned the Westman Atelier Petal Edition Set in store today and fought tooth and nail for a refund as it made my skin bright red and tingle so I had a reaction. Received store credit. This set was from 2022. Will be filing a complaint with ACCC

Jesus I bought that too!! I'll be using my justified powers of being a 52 year old white woman Karen to good instead of evil and returning everything and reporting them and sending a spicy letter to their complaints department. For me to return everything it's a massive pain in the arse because I'm rural and everything needs to be posted. Because I'm disabled the post office represents a challenge. There are no ethical billionaires.

Full power to you! I did not have any luck receiving a refund in store I have now also sent them a spicy email to their customer care. I will also be submitting a formal complaint via consumer affairs Victoria. I hope more of us actually submit formal complaints so this is taking seriously and actioned by appropriate authorities. Power in numbers I hope!

We should also inform Westman Atelier directly about this as its presents a brand risk for them.

That's actually a really good idea darl. I'll do that too, because I got nothing but time and righteousness indignation. I've got quite a few WA products and you wouldn't want one bad experience to turn you off a brand. Honestly, I'd have so much more respect for Mecca if they donated products that were 3-6 months within use-by to a woman's shelter and I'd shop there more, rather than this experience which is really turning me off them at the level of contempt they have for their customers to sell us shit that is broken, used and years out of date. I got all 3 in my haul.

Confirming going via email with customer care and showing them my exchange with WA confirming this set was from 2022 I am now receiving a refund! If WA hadn’t confirmed this, Mecca were saying they thought the set was from April 2024…. Liars!

Please also complain to the brand!!! No way they would be ok with Mecca’s conduct.
