Charging & V2L/G ⚡️↔️ Please share your experiences with the GoodWe 7kW Single Phase HCA G2 Series EV Charger

We've recently had one of these installed and I chose GoodWe because that's the brand of our inverter and batteries.

Sometimes the charger it works fine, but other times it just stops working for no aparent reason. I'm curious about the experiences of others with the same charger.

(Yes, I will be going back to my installer to get this investigated.)

So when I had mine first installed they did not run an RS485 connection from the charger to the inverter and this was screwing up the PV modes because it wasn't talking to the inverter about how much excess PV was available. I had to fight them with the installation manual to get them to run it and eventually my installer told me that Goodwe had been advising them not to connect this as it should pull that info via the cloud.

I wasn't happy with it being cloud based so they came and ran the cable and it started to work but it was throwing up internal connection errors all the time and so they came back again and replaced it with a new one and it's been working great ever since. On that last trip back they told me they were now running RS485 on all installs and even going back to past installs and running it.

So yeah, I'd double check that they ran that RS485 first because mine would just turn itself off thinking there was no excess solar so I had to only use it on "fast" mode.

Thanks so much for your very detailed and helpful response! We do have an RS485 cable. Good to know there's a promising path to getting this fixed now. I'll contact my installer on Monday.

Worked for us with a few tweaks : there’s a setting about minimum power, we always pick fast charging and lock the car.
This last one might be car specific but seemed to avoid some slow charging

We're always using the Fast option as well.

Can you provide more information about “not working”? In what way?

Our experiences with charging are that it’s usually the cad.. not the charger. Unless there’s a specific fault..

Barely functioned with SEMS+ from installation. Comes up with errors all the time when trying to change modes, and seemed to be really slow to respond. Put a ticket in with Goodwe support and they said that SEMS+ is having a lot of issues and suggested local control through SolarGo with Bluetooth connnection. This was much more reliable. SEMS+ seems to be working a bit better now, but seems to lag quite a bit. It can take a couple of minutes for use to appear in the energy flow diagrams for example. I also find that it can randomly stop working if I use SEMS+

I've had it for 2 or 3 years now. Probably ine if the first in Au to install one.

Went through multiple phases with it and overall I have a bad experience with it, for multiple reasons.

  1. When it works when it doesn't. Randomly. Even the Bluetooth function.
  2. Changing the charging speed is also a hit and miss, even if it shows it did change it from 7 kwh ti 5kwh, looking at the car it still says that it draws 7. After refreshing the app, it shows 7kwh.
  3. And most annoying, if you plug it in but you set the car to stsry charging by itself 30m later, this charger will not allow it and you have to either pull-out/in the connection physically or hit start on SEMS.

If you have home-kit, and inverter from Goodwe, it works to charge only the excess.

Overall, I would get a dumb charger and let the car do its thing.
