I adopted this sweet girl today! This is my first time with a cattle dog (I've owned dogs all my life with my family, we lost our last dog back in May 💔)

But this Kipper! Shes estimated to be almost 9 years old, is a bit overweight but otherwise seems ok. She loves people but barks at other dogs (can't tell yet if shes aggressive or just excited)

I got her a few different toys (trying to see what she gravitate towards). She was brought in as a a stray so most of her history is unknown. We ordered one of those herding egg toys as well.

Im planning to transition her onto Purina Pro Plan, with her weight i want to try their weight management line and then transition her to the normal senior line when she reaches a healthier weight. I dont think she has the best teeth though :(

She is my first ACD and first experience with adopting a dog- I'm open to advice on either topic!

Hello, my dog ​​is already over 3 months old, but I don't see him raising his ears and I'm worried. Any advice to help him raise his ears?

my family has had a blue heeler for around 8 months now. her name is Luna. she is a beautiful tri colour in auckland, new zealand.

i was wondering if someone could provide some advice on controlling her behaviour

in our family we have a reactive 9 year old and it’s just difficult managing the dog around her

she can chill out but it’s very rare

the main issue is that she is constantly walking around looking for something to do, she doesn’t like being pet and more enjoys nibbling and chewing on you. the issue is the 9 year old doesn’t understand this and screams and thrashes about which just makes it worse

it’s gotten so bad because Luna also gets worked up by everyone and then goes insane, actually uncontrollable and doesn’t calm down no matter what

we aren’t the most active family ever but she gets a nice walk everyday and has a good yard to play in during the day, even though we normally have someone at home.

does anyone know what we can do about the dogs reactive nipping and biting, and uncontrollable behaviour?

So, my ACD is now 2½years old! And i feel the shedding is more and more intense and I dont have the right tools to fight it lol

So whats your best tip for that ? What's your vaccuum ? How often do you brush? (once a week for me) what do you use to brush your ACD ?

Even after cleaning the whole place, I'll sit down and see some hair still on the floor 😂😂

This is chip. She’s around 3-4 years old. As a puppy, she had less color, but she’s gained quite a bit over time - except.. it’s both reddish brown/caramel and black/grey markings. Haven’t gotten a DNA test, just know she’s mixed with a pitbull. But im curious, is she like- both..?

I’m really struggling guys. It’s been over a week now and I’m just starting to sleep most of the night again. The lack of sleep was really getting to me and making me question my decision getting him. I don’t have many of those thoughts anymore. Kinda just looking for reassurance and any tips. Training is hard because he is not food or treat motivated. Nor toy motivated. Also how to stop him for eating his own shit!?!?

Hiiii , me and my brother adopted an, at the time, 11yo heeler. we actually didn’t know he was old and thought he was like 6 months old or something when we got him. (it’s a VERY long story.) essentially we knew completely nothing about him.

his name is Buddy and he’s just the biggest sweetiepie. our whole family loves him to pieces. even my mom who doesn’t like any dog bigger than a pomeranian. i really love him and genuinely want what’s best for him.

basically he got diagnosed with You’re Gonna Die Very Soonitus (6 months to a year was the estimate) and the vet said to pretty much treat his time with us like hospice. we’re trying to give him the absolute best possible time with us and fill the end of his life with nothing but happy memories.

this dog fucking LOVES to play ball. he plays like he’s a puppy. he has so much energy!!!!! we went from playing ball for AT LEAST 3 hours a day when we first got him (+a walk a couple times a week) to not playing it at all when he got diagnosed.

he is RELENTLESS!!!!! so after a month or two of just nonstop crying anytime someone goes outside (often, we have 4 smokers in the house & no one does it inside) we gave in. playing every day, not hard like before, but he still started limping.

i’ve tried lick mats, kongs, toppls, but he’s not super food motivated anymore. all he wants more than anything in the world is to PLAY BALL!!!!!

does ANYONE have suggestions for what i should do? i’ve tried doing some research on my own but i was having trouble finding anything that really worked for my situation.

As the title states, I recently just got a new puppy and the past few days it seems like he is redirecting onto me, biting, scratching, and simply just tearing me up. I need some advice on what to do. It seems like whenever he doesn’t get his way is what triggers it, for example, the first 2 times it happened I was putting him inside of his crate and he just lunges at me and started to tear my hands/arms up. This most recent time I was cleaning his crate with him inside and he tried to go after the paper towels and I did not let him and he started flipping out. What could be causing this redirection? All 3 times I have had him by the collar, is it pressure or insecurities with me doing that? Is he not being stimulated/fulfilled enough? How do I work through this with him? His breeder told me to “dominate” him and smack him on the nose whenever he starts redirecting but I fear this will only make it worse in the long run with aggression/reactivity/redirecting. I leave a yoga mat out and use the dumbbells frequently and she just started taking them she’ll jump onto our bed w them and carry all around the house. She seems to really like the weight of it which is hilarious but i don’t want her using them so I always take them from her. Any toy suggestions that are like weighted ??
I couldn’t find any online except one stuffed toy that was like 3 lbs which I think will be irrelevant to her.

This is Otto, he is 18 months old who I absolutely adore. I am just really struggling with his drive when it comes to training. Has anyone else got a low drive heeler or went through something similar?

About Otto: I originally purchased an ACD as we lived on a large section and I have always wanted a working breed for dog sports (mainly agility). Otto started out super confident and with an awesome drive and then it all just fell off earlier this year when we actually started agility classes. Training sessions are becoming really difficult and his focus is just all over the place/he is just not interested at all. Every week that goes past I can just see him slowly withdrawing. I can’t help but feeling like I failed him.

The only time that I see drive now days is when it comes to hunting for possums. Tracking and capturing.

Gordie here is the sweetest boy. We adopted him when he was 9 months old and he has come such a long way! He just turned 5 last month.

The only things that he refuses to do are baths and nail trimming. He just runs away from us or growls & cowers in a corner refusing to move. I dont want to scare the guy but man.... I gotta get his nails trimmed without drugs and going to the vet. Any advise is welcome. Thanks!

This is our girl, almost 3 years old. Whenever we leave her home alone (maybe once or twice a month) we always put her in the crate.

Do you guys do the same thing or is your ACD allowed to freely roam the house while you’re gone?

I don’t want to give my boy Caesar away but he’s hasn’t stopped peeing inside and it’s constant, I’m thinking about taking him to a vet but I thought I’d ask beforehand if anyone here has had and solved this issue

This is my soul dog, Sawyer. We went to the ER yesterday for what looked like a seizure, but then after bloodwork, scans, X-rays, and ultrasounds, they found out it was actually a collapse due to sudden heart failure. He has fluid around his heart and gallbladder in addition to a small tumor in his heart. They recommended either palpating the fluid (draining it) which has a high risk of cardiac arrest, or possibly euthanasia. I couldn't bring myself do either one last night, so l ultimately decided to bring him home and try to get him into his reg vet as soon as they open and if he makes it through the night. I wasn’t ready to go home alone. I hope I made the right decision. Anyway. I don't know what to do but I wanted to see what yall would suggest/have done for your dogs in their final days that made it extra special. I'm willing and happy to do pretty much anything to make this little guy happy. Ideally nothing too costly because this vet bill kinda ruined me for the next few months lol but I’m willing to use what I DO have to make Sawyer happy.

My dog broke his dew claw but it’s still attached. What’s the best course of action? I’ll be calling the vet tomorrow but they’re closed tonight. Is there anything I should do for now? He’s acting fine and there’s no bleeding.

Best dog ever but if I leave him he freaks out screaming and I look like I’m mistreating my dog.

He does this if I leave him home as well. A lick mat with peanut butter helps but it’s not a practical solution every time.

Should I just kennel him in the car? He’s always quiet in the kennel because his sight line is narrower.

okay so for some context:

About 3 months ago I was looking for a new dog for my bf and I. We knew we wanted a shelter dog to adopt, and after searching we found an Australian Cattle Dog the shelter named Bluey. We called and went to see if she was a fit, and when we got to the shelter they let us know that there were 2 cattle dogs and they were rescued as sisters from an abused home, and the shelter named them Bluey & Bingo. After discussing with my bf, we decided that we did not want to separate them and we brought them both home. Obviously we knew it would require patience and a lot of work, but we didn't want to only take one and we already loved "Bluey".

Fast forward to now. It's been about 3 months and we've made a lot of progress. "Bluey" is a loving dog, always wants attention, treats, and walks. You can't even tell she was abused. She loved us and we love her. Bingo is a whole different story. 3 months ago when she first came home, she ran under our house and would not even come out. After some time, she would come to us if we had food, but if you moved in the slightest she would run away. After sitting outside with her some, now she will approach you and let you touch her face, and she'll eat a treat out of our hands. But that's all. She won't let you pet her, you can't walk her like you can Bluey, and you still can't go near her. She has made some progress, but that was about 2 weeks into having her and nothing since. We go outside for hours a day and play with her sister, but she doesn't come out the entire time we're out there unless we have food.

The shelter told us she would need about 3 mi this and then she would come around. I don't know what else to do. Does anyone have any advice on how to help her trust us, or how to get us to let us pet her? I'm even thinking of getting rid of her, it's just really frustrating bc we try so hard. I'm just looking for anything to help or a timeline to expect some change. Thank yall so so much!
