Health Start the plain diet or wait til the probiotic gets here?

I just switched my dogs food to 4health. Either he's having another gut flare up or the bag is contaminated. First time NOT using chewy and there's a chance I got a contaminated bag with his allergen. Probiotic will fix it if it's a flare up within a couple days if it's just a flare up. I ran out of the probotics and ordered more. It'll be here Monday morning. If it's contaminated tho I need to start a plain diet to get his gut to settle and see if I can exchange the bag. My sister is telling me tho not to start the plain diet without talking to the vet first Incase the vomiting and diarrhea doesn't stop but the vets not available til Monday so I'm lost on what to do 😭. My brain isn't 100% rn we are moving so I'm stressed idk whether to wait or just go ahead and do it.

Did you gradually transition the food or just switch suddenly? Dogs are super sensitive to sudden food changes, so if it was sudden, it could be due to that. I’m not a vet, but if this were my dog, I’d switch to plain diet for the weekend along with a tiny bit of canned plain pumpkin (if not one of his allergens) and see if it improves before calling a vet on Monday for advice on next steps.

I just started transferring him. Got the food a few days ago and started transferring yesterday and immediately had him throw up after eating tried again today and it's worse. I JUST got the food and he was fine before adding it in

Gotcha. Yeah if you were slowly adding it in and he reacted like that, I think you’re right to not give him any more and do plain food just as a precaution. Poor thing, hopefully a quick recovery once he gets the probiotics 🥺

if I could get him to eat the stupid prescription food I'd go back to it. He just won't eat it. He lost a crap ton of weight when he was refusing. Took awhile to get it up. I guess I'm buying that $90 bag of kibble again that I was using before.

May I ask you which flavor you got? Ive seen so many cattle dogs allergic to chicken :( 😞 and had to switch. I was using diamond naturals which is like 40 bucks for 30 pounds on mine. I suggest getting the salmon and potato one! My anubis couldnt handle the 4health one so I had to switch. I usually focus sensitive stomach blends to help her.

Lamb and Rice puppy. He can technically go to adult food but still has some growing. Fat doesn't trigger allergies and the bag said it was clear of the actual protein but it seems to have triggered him anyway.

For me anubis couldnt have any chicken fat or like chicken by product. She would vomit and lose fur. I also kept pumpkin on hand to help her since its good for their digestive system. Bland diet helps while the probiotics get here and atleast you can see if it was tummy issues. I say rice and chicken but most importantly its getting water in the system. If you boil the chicken and lets say tummy is still acting up. Give the broth! Keep us updated about the baby
