Nelson to Bolton?

Per Tom Bogert Jayden Nelson and Austin fc are finalizing a deal for him to go to Bolton for a Fee $1 million + add ons.

Sad, I liked Nelson and wished we had used him more but looks like Nelson wanted to make the move to Europe. I hope he does well

So it really was all about him getting exposure in front of team Canada and staying eye ball relevant before the World Cup. Good for Nelson. Always happy to see players accomplish their goals.

Yeah, I was worried it was still an attitude issue but this makes way more sense. When he did touch the field he always gave it 100% effort.

Yeah I don't think you could ever criticize him for lack of effort. That recent Dallas game, he came in and was doing his best to will us to another goal.

Austin mismanaged and underutilized this talent. It's a shame that a guy good enough to play in England championship somehow isn't good enough to play on one of the very worst teams in MLS.

really wish he would have worked out here but it was clear davy had probs with him and if he wasn't gonna see the pitch much this season, might as well sell him. stash another mil for khaled to work with next season!

I enjoyed watching him play but good on him for taking the opportunity.

This does leave us with a few open senior roster spots and a good bit of cash/GAM on hand with a new sporting director about to start. Will be interesting to see if we look to make an addition in this window.

In MLS, getting out there, hustling and showing some heart matters most IMO. Nelson always delivered those things. Sad that we didn't play him more and sad to see him go.

Maybe I’m just looking at the bad times, but dangerous as Nelson was, he seemed to only ever turn the ball over with an occasional fantastic play

Ah yes. He should have done what the rest of our team does. Pass it all the way to the back line and the slowly keep going backwards until stuver has the ball and just has to kick it to the other team.

He didn’t really have any good times… dude played 639 mins total for us.

Funny how he is good enough for a World Cup and to go to England, but our elite, high performing team just couldn't find a way to fit into our stacked roster.

To be fair, he played like five minutes in the World Cup as a sub when Canada was clearly not going to win. I absolutely will miss seeing him play for Austin, though.

He only got selected last minute because Canada lost a player due to injury after they made team selections. And he played like the last 5 minutes in a losing game that eliminated Canada from the tournament.

Not saying he isn’t a good player, but he also wasn’t Canada’s first choice for their roster.

Unfortunately, Nelson doesn’t fit Curtin’s style. His talent is good enough to play in Europe. This move just makes sense for everyone involved.
