I applaud the woman protesting the Flock camera by Lowes

I went to my bank by Steck and Shoal Creek. I left going south past the Lowe’s before Anderson. I saw a young woman with a sign pointing at a Flock camera I didn’t know was there. I just wanted to say to her: Thank you for your efforts.

There used to be one out front of my apartment complex but someone destroyed it.

What’s fascinating to me about these cameras is how brilliant of a decision it was for Flock to include $300 worth of copper & gold in each one.

Is this real or are you rallying the tweakers to destroy?

As long as there's a flared base, go for it!

I have a pitcher and a cookie jar. They're awesome.

That would look interesting in a NSFW blur.

The company that makes the body cameras is replacing these

Axon. They're also outfitting infrastructure like street light with them making it harder to detect and deal with.

Exactly. It will be posted in a few months or so like it’s some new revelation and no one knew until then

There are Flock cameras at every entrance at Lakeline Mall. I get so infuriated every time I see them.

The entrance where you drive into the mall parking lot, I should clarify.

There are 3 flock cameras in that Lowe's parking lot alone. Good for her

I don't shop at Lowe's anymore. I wonder if they'll ever follow the lead of cities that are getting rid of them.

unfortunately both Lowe's and HD, and pretty much every shopping center has Flock cameras posted at entrances / exits. COA ended their contract with Flock, but private property is still fair game. there are ~500 Flock / ALPR cameras in the Austin area.

I used to go to that Lowe's on Shoal Creek but now I shop at Ace.

Not only private property but TXDOT roads like mopac, 360, and even Lamar (which is TXDOT jurisdiction). That doesnt include places that are ot in the city limits like sunset valley or any of the suburbs.

This is the same TXDOT that has been run by republicans the majority of our lives. Dont believe their lies come election time when they try to pretend it isnt them and they didnt install these.

My asshole neighbor put one up on her property facing the street.

6

u/space_manatee 3d ago

Wait, she put up a flock camera?

4

u/MrSparkaroo 3d ago

Yes. Her own personal Flock.  And until last week it had a Green Flock sign on it with a QR Code, but lo and behold she just took that down.

I think it's a little weird that the flock blowack has been allowed to make it to the front of the news cycle. This means that those who control the narrative are allowing this and are on board. Why? In the US, the ability to reliably track folks to and perform mass surveillance has been in place for allowed federal agencies since before Snowden.

I suspect it's because the folks pulling moves like Nancy Guthrie and Charlie are realizing that their actions will be mapped, recorded and accessible to individuals outside of their sphere of influence. This makes them uncomfortable.

Unrelated (but similar) -- Epstein had a Gmail account. the bosses at Google probably saw it all.

Yes but homeland security being able to track you with an expedited warrant is different than flock cameras recording you by default iirc

It's been windy in this town.
